The Boys Season 3 Has Wrapped Filming

That’s a wrap on the third season of Amazon’s hit superhero series The Boys. Based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys follows a ragtag group of vigilantes whose purpose is to keep corrupted superheroes from abusing their powers. It was a quick hit with viewers when it debuted in 2019, and its fan base has only grown after its critically acclaimed second season in 2020.

Fans are now waiting for the third season to arrive, and while a release date hasn’t yet been announced, we know that filming has just been completed. Taking to Twitter, actor Jack Quaid posted an image of himself on an airplane to reveal that he’s left the set and is headed back home. He also confirms that the season is officially wrapped, as you can see in the tweet below.

????????THATS A WRAP ON SEASON 3!????????
Thank you to everyone who worked on this season. This thumb is for YOU! Love this cast and crew so much. I can’t wait for you guys to see just how fucked up this season is. You’re not ready. @TheBoysTV#TheBoys#Season3pic.twitter.com/V4AJEbPjWw

In the tweet, Quaid writes, “THATS A WRAP ON SEASON 3! Thank you to everyone who worked on this season. This thumb is for YOU! Love this cast and crew so much. I can’t wait for you guys to see just how f**ked up this season is. You’re not ready.”

Quaid plays Hughie Campbell on the series, a character he’s portrayed since the first episode. When the love of his life is recklessly killed by a famous superhero, Hughie joins the group known as the Boys in order to seek vengeance. Co-starring as other members of the crew are Karl Urban, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capon, and Karen Fukuhara. Playing superheroes, the series also stars Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Nathan Mitchell, and Chace Crawford. Sean Patrick Flanery, Miles Gaston Villanueva, and Nick Wechsler have also joined the cast for the third season.

In season 2, Aya Cash was brought into the fray as the dastardly Stormfront, but it’s unclear if she’ll return. The third season will introduce Supernatural star Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, the first-ever superhero who’s seen as a John Wayne-like figure in the world of The Boys. Sneak peek photos of Ackles in costume as Soldier Boy have already been released and this casting is something that has many fans very excited for the new episodes. Creator and showrunner Eric Kripke has also teased that Soldier Boy will prove to be the biggest threat to Homelander yet.

“He’s one of these guys that’s been around for decades of Vought history. And he was Homelander before Homelander, so he’s from a different era, but he’s got the ego and the ambition – it just comes across in a different way because he’s from a different time,” Kripke said of the character, per Variety.

“I think anyone expecting Jensen to show up and be a good guy, they will be disappointed,” he added, suggesting Soldier Boy will be a villain. “In the comics he’s mostly just kind of bumbling and subservient to Homelander, I would say. As we’re writing him in this, we’re getting to really talk about the history of Vought because he’s like John Wayne: He’s one of these guys that’s been around for decades of Vought history.”

The Boys might have season 3 in the can, but it remains unclear when the new episodes will arrive. For now, fans can watch the first two seasons in their entirety on Amazon Prime Video.
