The Boys Wins Big at Saturn Awards as Showrunner Eric Kripke Celebrates

Amazon’s hit Prime Video series The Boys won big at the 46th Saturn Awards. At the event, which went down on Oct. 26, The Boys took home the win for Best Superhero Adaptation TV Series. Showrunner Eric Kripke was on hand to accept the award and has commented further on the honor with a post on Twitter.

Before genre took over the world, there was the OG @SaturnAwards. A room full on stone-cold passionate nerds: my tribe. Best room to win in. This award goes to the cast & crew, they’re the real heroes. THANK YOU, Saturns! #TheBoys#TheBoysTV@TheBoys@PrimeVideo@SPTVhttps://t.co/nisUxbHPtg

“Before genre took over the world, there was the OG Saturn Awards,” Kripke said in a tweet. “A room full on stone-cold passionate nerds: my tribe. Best room to win in. This award goes to the cast & crew, they’re the real heroes. THANK YOU, Saturns!”

Winning Best Superhero Adaptation TV Series meant beating out several other popular shows. The other nominees were The CW’s Batwoman, The CW’s The Flash, DC Universe’s Stargirl, The CW’s Supergirl, Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, and HBO’s Watchmen. Series star Erin Moriarty (Starlight/Annie January) was also nominated for Best Performance by a Younger Actor on a TV Series; Brec Bassinger won for her titular role on Stargirl.

This is another big win for The Boys. Earlier this year, it similarly won Best Superhero Series at the Critics’ Choice Super Awards. Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) and Antony Starr (Homelander) were both nominated for Best Actor in a Superhero Series at that event, with Starr winning that award along with Best Villain in a Series. Aya Cash (Stormfront) also won Best Actress in a Superhero Series. The show was also up for both Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards.

It’s not clear when The Boys will return for its third season, but we do know that the new episodes have been wrapped. The show is more popular than ever after its first two seasons, both of which were acclaimed and well-received by fans. Eric Kripke has suggested that the new season will focus heavily on series newcomer Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, the very first superhero in the world of The Boys.

“Season 3 delves a lot more into the history of how we got here through this character of Soldier Boy,” the showrunner told Vanity Fair in August. “We were able to dig into both the history of the country and also really look at toxic masculinity, and masculine roles, and what a s–t-show that’s overall caused. This whole f–king, independent Marlboro man thing.”

Eric Kripke developed The Boys for Prime Video, basing the hit series off of the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The series is a part action, part dark comedy satire of the superhero genre, spoofing many familiar characters and themes seen in DC and Marvel properties. It is set in a world where superheroes are corrupt behind the scenes, following a group of vigilantes whose purpose is to keep them from abusing their superpowers.

The Boys stars Karl Urban, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Jack Quaid, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Timer Capon, Chase Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, and Jensen Ackles. The first two seasons are streaming on Prime Video.
