The Boys Is Getting an Animated Anthology Series Spinoff

The world of The Boys will expand even further with an all-new animated series spinoff in the works. Dubbed Diabolical, the spinoff will consist of eight episodes, each one telling a different story set in the show’s cinematic universe with a different creator at the helm. The title was revealed in an announcement video for the series straight from Prime Video featuring series star Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) personally delivering the news. You can check out that video below.

“There is no question that you guys are the greatest fans in the world,” Urban says in the clip. “And as a special way of saying thank you to you, we’ve got a little surprise for you which is going to drop early next year. While we’ve been hard at work on season 3, Eric, Seth, and Evan asked a few of their celebrity mates to cook up eight deliciously unique, twisted, animated episodes set in the world of the boys. You might say they’re diabolical. Can’t wait for you to see them. Trust me, you’ll love them.”

“We’re almost finished with eight episodes of our animated series, Diabolical. We gathered together some incredible creators and we gave them one rule…just kidding, there’s no rules. They blew the doors off it,” executive producer and showrunner Eric Kripke said in a statement. The show includes stories from Awkwafina, Garth Ennis, Eliot Glazer & Ilana Glazer, Evan Goldberg & Seth Rogen, Simon Racioppa, Justin Roiland & Ben Bayouth, Andy Samberg, and Aisha Tyler.

Diabolical is executive produced by Simon Racioppa, Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ori Marmur, Ken F. Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Michaela Starr, Loreli Alanís, Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, and Ben Kalina. Diabolical is produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios, with Titmouse, Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures.

Amazon clearly has big plans for the Prime Video series, as this isn’t even the first spinoff that has been announced. A separate live-action spinoff is in the works which will spoof X-Men with a younger cast of characters, focusing on budding superheroes learning how to use their abilities. It’s not yet clear when that spinoff will arrive or how exactly it will tie into the main show, but certain crossovers seem inevitable. There also doesn’t seem to be any slowing down for the parent series either.

The Boys has gotten better than ever by the end of its second season, and there’s a particular amount of interest from fans waiting for the third season’s premiere. Jensen Ackles will be leading the charge as Soldier Boy with the Payback team, a group that was Vought’s first team of superheroes before The Seven was established. Kripke recently teased the introduction of Payback in season 3.

The first two seasons of The Boys are currently streaming on Prime Video. We’re still waiting for an official release date for season 3, but with the season wrapped, let’s hope some footage and some new info aren’t too far off. Some details of this story come to us from Deadline.
