The Witcher Season 2 Clip Reveals Ciri’s Intense Training

Fans of Netflix’s The Witcher are being treated to another ‘Witchmas’ present, with a new clip from the upcoming second season.

The second season of The Witcher is almost upon us, and as Netflix prepares to release the new episodes the platform is once again putting out some “Witchmas” treats for fans, the first of which arrived today as a clip of a new look at Ciri’s training at Kaer Morhen. The clip, chosen by fans on a social media poll by The Law of Surprise, was shared on The Witcher’s official Twitter account, and revealed that Ciri is about to take a fair share of beatings in the upcoming return of the Henry Cavill-led fantasy series which returns at the end of the week.

The tweet states, “Looks like you have chosen… wisely. Enjoy the first of many #Witchmas treats!” with the 67-second long clip showing Ciri having to run a gauntlet, and taking a bruising in the process. You can check out the clip below.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Fans of The Witcher have been given a number of early Christmas gifts this year, with numerous announcements made during many events in the last few months revealing what is to come from Netflix’s Witcher Universe. The series has already been renewed for a third season, which considering the popularity of the show came as no surprise to anyone, but in addition to that announcement were many additional spin-offs that are also headed our way. Along with the first season of the show, a making-of documentary was also released, and the anime movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf was also added this year.

Then we have the future of the franchise, which includes the prequel live-action series The Witcher: Blood Origin, a second animated movie following on from the success of the Nightmare of the Wolf film, and there is even a child-centric spinoff coming, although how that one is going to work in the context of the series is currently unknown. More importantly is a plan that series showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has for the flagship show, which appears to be a seven season plan.

Discussing how much input actor Henry Cavill has in the character of Geralt of Rivia, Hissrich recently revealed that the actor often tries to work out how to bring out the best of the character on screen. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said, “A lot of the notes he was sending to me were about Geralt’s dialogue — could he, first of all, say more. Everybody came out of season one laughing and loving Geralt’s fuming. But Henry was saying that when you read the books you spend a lot of time in Geralt’s head. So how can we put that on the page? Meanwhile, I wanted to tell the story of him becoming a father figure to Ciri. So those two things coalesced wonderfully. He opens up to get Ciri to trust him, by speaking his mind and his heart more.”

With Cavill seemingly happy to continue the role as long as the series runs, and source material certainly not lacking, it looks like The Witcher is here to stay for some time yet, which can only be a good thing for the fans of the franchise. The Witcher season 2 starts streaming on Netflix on Dec. 17.
