Disney+ Executive Suggests Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Coming in May

Disney+’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most anticipated shows of the year, and according to a now-deleted tweet, it will arrive in May.

In the now-familiar scenario of someone tweeting something that they maybe shouldn’t and quickly attempting to delete it, a Disney+ executive seems to have revealed a very appropriate release date is now expected for the highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series. According to the images of the tweet shared via Reddit, the return of Ewan McGregor as the Jedi master will premiere on Disney + in May, and that can really only suggest one date for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s debut: May 4th.

The post by Disney Streaming Enterprise Program Manager Brandon San Giovanni read, “Our very own Obi-Wan wi (sic) be saying “hello there,” on Disney+… May 2022.” While the post was subsequently removed, presumably for being premature, there were obviously plenty of eagle-eyed Twitter watchers who had already taken a screenshot and posted it in various other places. Although the post did not specify the 4th of May as the release date, the fact that Disney+ made Wednesday its big release day for the big Marvel and Star Wars series’, Wednesday 4th May is too good an opportunity to miss.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

However, nothing is ever quite as simple as it seems, and despite the Tweet being deleted and San Giovanni making his Twitter feed private, there was a suggestion that he may have mixed up the series with a five-issue comic that details several periods of Kenobi’s life which is due for release in May. Although this could be a way of diverting attention from the error, it seems unlikely that someone that close to the Disney+ platform would make such a mistake, and the choice of words in the tweet was very specific to Ewan McGregor’s Jedi.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Will Bring Together the Jedi And Darth Vader For Another Showdown

Since the first whispers that Ewan McGregor could be returning to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new movie, fans were unable to contain their excitement for the project and what it could bring to the Star Wars franchise – namely another face-off between Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, or Darth Vader as he became. Although the planned movie failed to make it following the demise of the “A Star Wars Story” series of films that ended with Solo, Disney+ became the perfect opportunity for an Obi-Wan focused show to find a home and continue the expansion of the Star Wars Universe.

Soon after the show was confirmed as being in production, it was announced that Hayden Christensen would also be returning for the series in the role of Darth Vader, setting up one of the most awaited rematches in sci-fi history. Of course, all details about the show are being kept under wraps, with very little leaking from the set during filming and less being said about it since. While fans know exactly where Obi-Wan’s story ends in Star Wars: A New Hope, the series will bridge part of the gap between the events of Revenge of The Sith and that final showdown between the two.

Watch for an official premiere date for Obi-Wan Kenobi coming soon.
