Norman Reedus Gets Concussion While Filming The Walking Dead’s Final Episode

Tussling with the undead in character as Daryl Dixon got a little too physical for Norman Reedus. As of now, the cast and crew of the hit AMC zombie drama The Walking Dead are working on the show’s finale episode, capping off the eleventh and final season of the long-running show. The announcement was made by Duane Charles Manwiller, the show’s director of photography, with a post from the set on Instagram.

“Day ONE on the last episode of TWD. Here we go!! Let’s get this party started,” he said.

Just days later, Variety reported that Daryl Dixon actor Norman Reedus had suffered a concussion due to an on-set injury. The incident has delayed filming by a few days to allow for Reedus to properly recover before returning to work. It’s not clear exactly how Reedus sustained the injury, which could have happened in any number of ways, given the physicality of the show. The good news is that the actor is “recovering well.” He is also expected to be back on the set soon to wrap up The Walking Dead with the rest of the cast and crew.

“Norman suffered a concussion on set. He is recovering well and will return to work soon. Thank you to everyone for their concern,” Reedus’ publicist said.

Daryl Dixon’s Story Will Continue With a Daryl & Carol Spinoff Series

AMC

Norman Reedus has been a part of The Walking Dead since its very first season. While he was not in the original comic books from author Robert Kirkman, he quickly grew to become a fan favorite due largely to his portrayal by Reedus. With nearly all of the main characters from the original season having since left, it’s all down to Daryl and Carol (Melissa McBride) to give that original story going in a new series.

They will be doing just that in a Daryl & Carol series set in the world of The Walking Dead, so we haven’t seen the last of them just yet. This is one of multiple spinoffs that will keep the franchise alive even if the main series is coming to an end. Fear the Walking Dead is still ongoing after getting renewed for an eighth season. After the limited series The World Beyond, The Walking Dead will also expand with an anthology series dubbed Tales of the Walking Dead. Meanwhile, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will get their own spinoff as well, this one called Isle of the Dead.

First, season 11 will cap off The Walking Dead. Teasing the final episodes, showrunner Angela Kang noted, “The stakes will be high: we’ll see more zombies; tons of action; intriguing new stories; never-before-seen locations and our groups together in one community for the first time, trying to rebuild what the Whisperers took from them.”

You can catch the eleventh and final season’s episodes on Sunday nights when The Walking Dead airs on AMC.
