Cosmo and Wanda Are Back

Last month, Nickelodeon and Paramount+ had unveiled our first look at the official trailer for the upcoming series, The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder. The all-new series will be a direct follow-up to the popular Nickelodeon television show that will be featured in a combination of animation and live-action. While it takes a bit getting used to with watching the series in live-action, original voice actors Daran Norris and Susanne Blakeslee’s performance as Cosmo and Wanda brings back the same funny and energetic vibe as the animated series. Fairly Odder will be arriving exclusively on Paramount+ this week. You can check out the official trailer below.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Fairly OddParents is an American animated television series created by Butch Hartman back in 2001. The series followed a 10-year-old boy named Timmy Turner, who had two fairy godparents named Cosmo and Wanda, that granted him wishes to solve his everyday problems. The Fairly OddParents actually originated from several shorts that were featured on Nickelodeon’s animation showcase titled, OH Yeah! Cartoons, from 1998 to 2001. The Fairly OddParents ended in 2017 with a total of 10 seasons and 172 episodes. On February 24, 2021, Paramount+ had announced that a live-action series was in active development.

The official synopsis for the original animated series reads as, The Fairly OddParents tells the story of a 10-year-old boy named Timmy Turner who is neglected by his parents and abused by his babysitter, Vicky. One day, he is granted two fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda, who grant his every wish to improve his miserable life. The series also became the second longest-running animated series, behind SpongeBob SquarePants.

The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder will pick up years after the original series that will follow Timmy Turner’s cousin, Vivian “Viv” Turner, and her brand-new stepbrother, Roy Raskin. Together they will navigate their lives in Dimmsdale with the help of their new fairly godparents, who were passed down by a now older Timmy Turner. The upcoming series will see the return of Butch Hartman and Fred Seibert as producers, and Christopher J. Nowak as both executive producer and showrunner. As new characters will be introduced for the very first time, it has been confirmed that Fairly Odder will also feature several characters from the original animated series into live-action.

The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder stars Audrey Grace Marshall as Vivian “Viv” Turner; Tyler Wladis as Roy Raskin; Laura Bell Bundy as Roy’s mom, Rachel Raskin; Ryan-James Hatanaka as Viv’s dad, Ty Turner; and Imogen Cohen as their friend, Zina Zacarias. Original voice cast Susanne Blakeslee and Daran Norris will reprise their roles to voice the iconic, and still animated, fairly godparents, Wanda and Cosmo respectively. It has recently been revealed that Mary Kate Wiles will star as Vicky, and original voice actor Carlos Alazraqui will return as Mr. Crocker.

The official synopsis for The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder reads as, Ty Turner uproots his life to reunite with his high school sweetheart, Rachel Raskin, in the town of Dimmsdale, thrusting his cautious 13-year-old daughter, Viv, into a new world where she does not fit in. Once there, Viv’s cousin, Timmy, entrusts his fairy godparents, Wanda and Cosmo, to help her adjust by taking her under their wings. Witnessing the fairy transfer take place, Viv’s charismatic new stepbrother, Roy, also inherits them, and the two siblings must take turns making wishes. Together, they learn to overcome the obstacles in their path, all with the help from their new wand-wielding and wish-granting fairy godparents.

Episode 101 – Cake, Dance, & Solid Gold Pants

Paramount

Timmy Turner is excited to gift his cousin Vivian his Fairly Godparents on her first day living in Dimmsdale. However, when her new stepbrother Roy accidentally witnesses the transfer, Viv and Roy are forced to share the godparents.

The series premiere begins years after the last season of the original animated series, where we see the previous titular character, Timmy Turner, packing up his bags to go off to college. As Cosmo and Wanda state their excitement to live the college lifestyle with Timmy, he announces that both fairies won’t be joining him in the next chapter of his life. Timmy reveals that his cousin, Vivian Turner, is in greater need off fairy godparents due to her recent life changes. After receiving approval from Jorgen Von Strangle, his only condition was that no one else must see the fairy godparents during the official fairy transfer to Vivian.

Vivian’s father, Ty Turner, had recently reunited with his high school sweetheart in Dimmsdale. From there, everything in Vivian’s life has had drastic changes, to include moving to a whole new town and having a new stepmother and stepbrother, who she has never even met. After meeting Rachel and Roy in Viv’s now new home, it is revealed that there is some tension between Rachel and Viv. For Roy on the other hand, he seems to be super excited that he now has a brand-new stepsister. After briefly settling into her new bedroom, Timmy Turner arrives to visit Viv while hiding Cosmo and Wanda in his backpack.

Thought to be alone in a room, Timmy Turner reveals Cosmo and Wanda to Viv for the very first time. While the fairy transfer is being conducted, Roy falls from a skylight window, also being present during the transfer. It is then revealed that both Viv and Roy have to share their fairy godparents by taking turns after making one wish at a time. While this upsets Jorgen Von Strangle, Timmy Turner has no choice but to leave for college.

Episode 103 – The Forbidden Phrase

Paramount

In an effort to bring business to their parents’ dance studio, Viv and Roy wish to write the catchiest song of all time. It goes viral, but they learn their song contains “the forbidden phrase.” A song so catchy that it turns people to zombies.

With Viv and Roy’s parents not bringing in enough business to run their dance studio, the newly found step siblings decide to help their parents however they can. Viv and Roy decide to develop their own music video on social media in hopes that the video goes viral. After receiving brief assistance from Cosmo and Wanda, before leaving for a fairy business trip, Viv and Roy’s music video ends up being the most popular video in the world. At first everything seemed to be going great, but then things took off in a wrong turn.

After several people begin to listen to the new song over and over, people start turning into zombies (the non-people eating type). With the help of Dustin Lumberlake and his council of pop stars, Viv and Roy manage to turn everyone back to normal without any help from Cosmo and Wanda. As Viv and Roy continue to spend more time together, their sibling bond begins to grow stronger, while the tension between Rachel and Viv don’t seem to be getting any better.

While the all-new series introduces a new generation of characters, Fairly Odder certainly continues the legacy that all started with Timmy Turner back in 2001. While the majority of the series takes place in live-action, the animation portion surely brings back many core memories from the original series. The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder will debut all 13 episodes on Paramount+ on Thursday, March 31. All episodes will immediately be available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Nordics, and Latin America.
