Michael Scott Recalls His Childhood Tea Party in Unearthed Deleted Scene

Brand new footage from The Office has been unveiled. Courtesy of Peacock, a deleted and never-before-seen scene has been uploaded to YouTube for every fan of the series to enjoy. The scene was removed from the tenth episode of season 5, “The Surplus,” in which Michael Scott (Steve Carell) is informed by Oscar (Oscar Nunez) that the office must spend a $4300 surplus or lose it from their next year’s budget.

Through a subsequent chat with David Wallace (Andy Buckley), Michael learns that he could earn himself a 15% monetary bonus if he were to turn in the surplus rather than spend it. That leads to the deleted scene which features new footage that leads into Michael convincing the staff that they should make the best of what they have. In the scene, which you can watch below, Michael demonstrates this point by explaining how he made the best of his childhood tea party after he didn’t get the Pippi Longstocking doll he’d really wanted for it.

Since The Office switched over to Peacock from its previous streaming home at Netflix, new footage has continuously been introduced to fans. On the streaming platform, there are “SuperFan” episodes that include new and extended scenes not included in the original show, many of which are never-before-seen. It has proven to be a nice treat for longtime fans of the series who continue to binge the show consistently, having seen the normal episodes several times over.

The Office Might Be Rebooted

NBCUniversal Television Distribution

Because The Office remains so popular, NBCUniversal has left the door open for a continuation or revival at Peacock. This hasn’t happened yet as Greg Daniels, who adapted the American version of the series for NBC, is apprehensive about revisiting the show. Daniels has said that he is concerned that a revival could taint how people feel about the original series if it doesn’t live up to expectations.

“Well, [NBC] certainly would be very excited to do it,” Daniels said, per Collider. “Obviously certain parts are just personal, like I’ve got all these other projects that I’ve been working on. And [The Office] was such a wonderful and rare experience that obviously you don’t want to just go back to it and kind of possibly disappoint people when right now, they couldn’t be happier about it.”

Teasing that a new version would follow new characters, Daniels added, “I can’t tell whether fans would want more of it, and when I say more of it, I don’t think it would be the same characters. I think it would just be sort of like an extension of the universe, you know what I mean, like the way [The] Mandalorian is like an extension of Star Wars. But I don’t know if that would be something people would want or not, it’s hard to tell.”

Time will ultimately tell if there are any continuations to The Office, but for now, fans can watch classic episodes on Peacock.
