A new official trailer has just been released for the upcoming DC sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Debuting at San Diego Comic-Con, the trailer was premiered at Hall H with star Zachary Levi on hand to speak about the film and introduce the video. The trailer is now available to watch online, and you can check it out below.

“Now, it’s a couple years on, and we’ve all been flying around doing various missions, trying to help the city of Philadelphia and the world at large,” Levi said of where the story picks up in the Shazam! sequel. “But, again, we’re all still kind of learning how to do that. Lots of growing pains. Not just in our own powers, but also figuring out our own identity between the two. Is it regular self, or super self?”

Zachary Levi Says Part 2 Is Better Than the First

David F. Sandberg also directed the original Shazam! movie, which comes from a story by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Set in the DCEU and inspired by the DC Comics character, Shazam! follows a teenager boy named Billy Batson who is chosen by an ancient wizard to become a superhero, granting him the ability to transform into an adult crime-fighter by saying the word “Shazam.” The film was a big success at the box office and garnered positive reviews, standing out while many other DCEU-set films didn’t fare quite as well.

For as well as the first movie performed, Zachary Levi promises that Fury of the Gods is even better. The actor previously spoke with Collider and shared that opinion, feeling very confident about what they have in store for fans with Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

“I will say that I genuinely — and this is not just lip service — I’m really proud of the first one, I think we made a really, really good movie,” Levi said. “I think the second one is better. I think that we had more time, we had more budget. We had, essentially, the entire cast returning, and we all knew our characters a little bit more; we could kind of sit into them a little bit more. Henry Gayden, who wrote the first script, wrote the second, and he did a fantastic job doing so. Everything just clicked even a little bit more and a little bit more.”

He added, “And also the kids have grown up a little bit more, so even the sensibilities of them become even slightly more mature which brings it closer to my or other people’s adult minds, so there’s even more connection there, I think. The action’s great, the comedy’s great, the relationships are great. The bad guys, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu, are fantastic. I’m very proud of it.”

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to be released in movie theaters on Dec. 21, 2022.
