With Better Call Saul done and over with, Bob Odenkirk is hoping that he’ll now have the time to take on more action roles. Last year, Odenkirk starred in the hit film Nobody, portraying a violent antihero in a role that’s far unlike what fans usually see from the actor. The film was a success, leaving many fans hoping for a sequel with Odenkirk taking well to the action genre. Now, recent remarks made by the actor suggest he’s just as eager to start beating up bad guys again.
Per Deadline, Odenkirk was present for a Venice Film Festival masterclass on Thursday. He spoke about how happy he was with the response to Nobody and revealed that he’s been staying in shape ever since his rigorous training for that film. This is partly because he wants to keep the door open to do more action roles in the future.

With that said, Odenkirk is not looking to get away from comedy necessarily. In fact, he’s even wondering if there’s perhaps a way to blend action with comedy, such as was the case with some of Jackie Chan’s comedic action films. In any case, as Odenkirk explains, it’s very clear that he’s hoping to return to the action genre before long.
“I was very surprised by Nobody. I had initiated that project because I had a feeling that the character I was developing in Better Call Saul was the kind of character you see in an action film. He has earnest desires and he was willing to sacrifice himself…I still train multiple times a week and if I get my way you’re going to see me doing more action. I found the action sequences a great deal of fun and close to doing sketch comedy…I love the early Jackie Chan films which had humor in them. I’d like to get that in the future.”

Bob Odenkirk Is Leaving Saul Goodman Behind
AMC
While Bob Odenkirk is eager to see what opportunities come next, especially with potential acting jobs, he’s going to miss Better Call Saul. He spoke about how he feels conflicted, as even though saying goodbye to this character will allow for more opportunities to take on new challenges, Odenkirk will deeply miss all of his friends from the Better Call Saul team. As Odenkirk puts it:
“I have very mixed feelings. We get into this business most of us because we want to play a variety of stories. It’s one of the joys. It was a long time to play one guy and portray his psyche. He did have a very vast array of emotions and experience so there was great variety. We tested the boundaries with elements that were very comedic, almost like sketch comedy. Breaking Bad didn’t overstay its welcome and we had a fount of goodwill. I’m gonna miss the good parts of that guy and the friendships with the actors. We even lived together. And that’ll be the role I’ll be known for my whole life. And I’m proud of that.”
Meanwhile, Odenkirk could end up soon returning to the action genre as he is hoping for. There has been some recent chatter about Nobody 2 moving forward, and if that ends up materializing, we can be sure Odenkirk will be there to answer the call.
