The Rock Shares More Red One Images, Reveals J.K. Simmons as Santa Claus

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has revealed a few more images from the upcoming action Christmas outing, Red One, revealing that Spider-Man and Whiplash star J.K. Simmons will play Santa Claus. Which begs the question, who will Johnson be playing? Taking to social media, Johnson shared a pair of images with his superhero-looking character touring a mall alongside Simmons’ jolly old Saint Nick. Check out these latest images from Red One below.

“AWESOME & SO MUCH FUN to officially start the production of our new Christmas franchise, known as “RED ONE”,” The Rock says in a caption alongside the photos, which show him and Simmons filming a sequence from the movie. “And introducing the one and only, Santa Claus – played by the one and only Academy Award winner, JK Simmons – who can also pass as my twin.”

It’s clear that the two actors are having a great time filming the project, which, currently known as Red One, could receive a title change at some stage. Plot details for Red One are still being kept a mystery, but Johnson goes on to describe the movie saying, “This is a massive globe trotting & fun movie that brings Christmas home to you and your families in a way that you’ve never seen before.”

But who could Dwayne Johnson be playing in Red One? While some had speculated that he could be playing a behemoth version of Santa Claus, this is clearly not the case. However, based on the red-and-black suit and candy cane-looking lasso, Johnson is undoubtedly playing a character who works for Santa. Time will tell how all this fits together.

Red One will be led by Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson and Captain America himself, Chris Evans, with Johnson recently sharing an image of himself and the newly crowned sexiest man alive on set. The festive film has been slowly putting together its supporting cast, with the likes of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka and Kill Bill star Lucy Liu alongside Johnson and Evans. The rest of the Red One line-up includes Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Nick Kroll (Don’t Worry Darling), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), and Wesley Kimmel (The Book of Boba Fett), with Bonnie Hunt (Jumanji, Toy Story 4) starring as Mrs. Claus opposite J.K. Simmons’ Santa.

The project sees Johnson working alongside several of his frequent collaborators. Red One is being developed from an original story by Seven Bucks Productions’ President of Production, Hiram Garcia, with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle director Jake Kasdan at the helm and working from a screenplay by Seven Bucks Productions’ frequent collaborator Chris Morgan who has penned scripts for Johnson many times over with such titles as Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, and The Fate of the Furious.

Red One is scheduled to be released exclusively through streaming via Prime Video, and is expected to debut during the holiday season of 2023.
