  • Ncuti Gatwa Set to Leave Sex Education After Season 4

Actor Ncuti Gatwa confirms his exit from Sex Education as season 4 production comes to an end.

BBC Studios

Fans of the Netflix hit series Sex Education were recently hit with a blow as Ncuti Gatwa, who played the character Eric Effiong, announced his departure from the show. Gatwa’s exit is just the latest in a string of departures from the series, with other major cast members such as Patricia Allison, Tanya Reynolds, Simone Ashley, and Rakhee Thakrar also confirmed that they would not be returning for the fourth season. Gatwa’s departure is partly due to his recent casting as the 14th Doctor in the long-running British sci-fi series Doctor Who. The new role in Doctor Who is a major career move for the actor and will require significant time and dedication, leaving little room for him to continue his role in Sex Education.

In a touching Instagram post, Ncuti Gatwa bid farewell to the show and his character. He shared a picture of his trailer door from the production and an emotional message. Gatwa expressed gratitude for the show and what he had learned during his time on it. He thanked the series for the lessons and strength he gained from the experience. The post received a touching response from Gatwa’s co-star, Aimee Lou Wood, who expressed her sadness at Gatwa’s departure, saying that her “heart hurts badly.”

While Gatwa’s departure from Sex Education is a significant loss for the show, the future remains uncertain for the series as a whole. There has been no official announcement regarding a fifth season of the show, but it has received widespread critical acclaim and has been praised for handling sensitive topics. Whether Sex Education will continue without Gatwa remains to be seen, but fans can expect a new direction for the show as it moves forward without one of its major stars.

What to Expect From Sex Education Season 4

Netflix

In the fourth season of Sex Education, Maeve Wiley, played by Emma Mackey, will leave to participate in a study program in the United States. This departure will create new obstacles and possibilities for the remaining characters, and viewers can anticipate a shift in the direction of the series. A logline has been released that provides a glimpse into what to expect from the upcoming season, giving fans an idea of what new adventures await their favorite characters.

Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier – their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, whilst Eric is praying they won’t be losers again. But Cavendish is a culture shock for all the Moordale students – they thought they were progressive but this new college is another level. There’s daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular for being… kind?! Viv is totally thrown by the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach, while Jackson is still struggling to get over Cal. Aimee tries something new by taking an Art A Level and Adam grapples with whether mainstream education is for him. Over in the US, Maeve is living her dream at prestigious Wallace University, being taught by cult author Thomas Molloy. Otis is pining after her, whilst adjusting to not being an only child at home, or the only therapist on campus…

As of now, there is no official release date for the fourth season of Sex Education, but it’s expected to air later this year.
