  • Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West Team Up for Comedy Series Big Mood

For Nicola Coughlan, being part of Big Mood is the biggest dream!

Netflix

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan is set to star with It’s a Sin actress Lydia West in the upcoming comedy series Big Mood. The series initially had a working title of Super Close but was later changed to Big Mood. The series will be written and created by Camilla Whitehill and directed by Rebecca Asher.

The series will be produced by Fremantle through Dancing Ledge Productions and Fremantle will be handling the global sales of the series. Bad Mood will be composed of six episodes and is scheduled to start filming this spring. Georgie Fallon, Lotte Beasley Mestriner, Laurence Bowen and Chris Carey are listed as the show’s producers.

Coughlan apparently had a longstanding friendship with Big Mood writer and creator Camilla Whitehill. She said to Variety, “We met like a million years ago at drama school in Oxford. She was training to be an actor. And then when we left drama school, we were both in various states of not working and everything being a bit crap. And she was like, ‘I’m not gonna be an actor, I want to write.’ I went to see her first short play night, and she was just – she’s always been insanely funny.”

The Bridgerton actress also shared that she’s always dreamed of working with Whitehill and having West in the mix is a great bonus. She continued, “the fact now the show is happening… I’ve always wanted to work with her[Whitehall]. And then for Lydia to be part of it is the biggest dream.”

West and Coughlan had a brief encounter at the BAFTA Awards last year. Ultimately, the reason West accepted the project was because she finds the script funny. Lydia West, who’s had heartbreaking moments on It’s a Sin, will make everyone laugh on the upcoming series. The script was sent through her agent and she started reading it after it was handed to her. She said, “I think it was towards the end of lockdown a couple of years ago. I just read it, and I was genuinely laughing out loud. It just sounded like some of the conversations I have with some of my mates. “
