  • Alison Brie and Jake Lacy Join Annette Benning for Peacock’s Apples Never Fall

Alison Brie and Jake Lacy are the two newest names attached to the upcoming limited series.

Prime Video

Alison Brie and Jake Lacy have boarded Peacock’s upcoming Apples Never Fall, Variety reports. The two join previously announced leads Annette Benning and Sam Neill. The limited series is an adaptation of the Liane Moriarty novel of the same name. Apples Never Fall is a #1 New York Times Bestselling Novel, with over a million copies sold worldwide. Moriarty authored two previous novels that were adapted for the screen: Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers.

According to the film’s logline, Apples Never Fall “centers on the Delaneys, who from the outside appear to be an enviably contented family. Former tennis coaches Joy (Bening) and Stan (Neill) are parents to four adult children. After decades of marriage, they have finally sold their famed tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives. But after Joy disappears, her children are forced to re-examine their parents’ marriage and their family history with fresh eyes.”

Brie and Lacy will portray two of Joy and Stan’s four children: Brie will play Amy, the elder Delaney child whose character description describes as “the black sheep of the family” and “a mess.” Lacy has been cast as Troy, the second-oldest child of the Delaneys, a tennis player turned venture capitalist.

Melanie Marnich, who is adapting the book for the series, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Heyday Television’s David Heyman, Moriarty, Albert Page, Jillian Share, and Chris Sweeney also serve as executive producers. Sweeney will direct multiple episodes. Apples Never Fall was ordered at Peacock last February.

Brie is best known for her roles on Community and GLOW. For her work on the latter, she earned Golden Globe nominations in 2018 and 2019. Brie called the series cancelation “the great heartbreak of [her] career.”

Her other credits include roles in Promising Young Woman, The Disaster Artist, and The Post. Recently, she has expanded her efforts to producing and writing with Spin Me Round, Horse Girl, and most recently, Somebody That I Used to Know. She also acted on all three films.

Lacy most recently starred in Peacock’s Friend of the Family as pedophile Robert Berchtold. He gained recognition when he starred as Pete Miller in the final season of The Office. Other notable credits include High Fidelity, Fosse/Verdon, and The White Lotus, for which he earned an Emmy nomination.
