The latest trailer for the upcoming John Wick prequel series, The Continental: From the World of John Wick, reveals more of how a young Winston Scott comes to take over the titular safe haven for assassins. Coming courtesy of Peacock, The Continental: From the World of John Wick will take audiences back to a time before Mr. Wick, with Winston tackling all manner of threats from villainous rivals to the Mafia. The Continental: From the World of John Wick will tell the background story of how Winston Scott, played on the big screen by Ian McShane and in the series by The Flight Attendant star Colin Woodell, came to his position as proprietor of the New York branch of “The Continental” chain of hotels in an alternate history 1970s. The Continental is one of several safe havens for legal assassins on the grounds of which no business may ever take place, and the series explores variations on real-world events, including the Winter of Discontent and the American Mafia’s rise to economic power.

Developed, written, and executive produced by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward, and Shawn Simmons, The Continental: From the World of John Wick is all set to be led by Colin Woodell (Ambulance) as the younger version Winston Scott, one of John Wick’s (only) friends and allies, with the series exploring how he came to hold such power and influence over this world of killers.

The rest of the cast behind the series includes Hubert Point-Du Jour (The Good Lord Bird), Jessica Allain (The Laundromat), Mishel Prada (Fear the Walking Dead: Passage), Nhung Kate (The Housemaid), Ben Robson (The Boy, Vikings), Jeremy Bobb (The Outsider, Russian Doll), Katie McGrath (Jurassic World), and Ray McKinnon (Rectify, Deadwood), with Ayomide Adegun starring as a young Charon and Mel Gibson starring as a ruthless criminal kingpin named Cormac.

The Continental Will Feature the Kind of Action Expected of the John Wick Saga

Just because The Continental: From the World of John Wick does not feature Baba Yaga himself, does not mean the series will scrimp on the action. Speaking recently of the show, director Albert Hughes addressed the difficulty of creating something new within an already beloved franchise, before boasting that the finale of the first season of The Continental: From the World of John Wick will feature “57 minutes” of non-stop action. “This kind of thing has been done; whether it’s Jon Favreau with Star Wars or Noah Hawley with Fargo,” Hughes said, “but not in the same way because John Wick is unique.”

Executive producer Basil Iwanyk meanwhile adds, “The biggest challenge is how do you make it [stand on] its own. But at the same time, people go, ‘Oh, I know what this is—a John Wick TV show,’ so I hope we pulled that off.”

The Continental: From the World of John Wick is scheduled to premiere on September 22, 2023, on Peacock.
