James Gunn Hints That Two Guardians of the Galaxy Stars Could Be Joining the DCU

Summary

  • Fans are eagerly anticipating new collaborations in Gunn’s future projects, with hints that Chris Pratt and Pom Klementieff may join DC Studios.
  • Klementieff has had discussions with Gunn about a potential role in the DC franchise, while speculation suggests Pratt could play Booster Gold.
  • James Gunn’s films are known for their unique storytelling and recurring collaborators, creating a signature touch.

The cinematic works of James Gunn have always stood out not just for their unique storytelling and compelling visuals but also for the recurring collaborators he brings on board. Time and again, audiences have been treated to performances from Michael Rooker and Nathan Fillion across Gunn’s filmography. It’s become a sort of tradition, a signature touch. As the first trilogy of Guardians of the Galaxy concludes, fans are keenly anticipating new collaborations, and buzz suggests two of its stars could be venturing into the DC realm.

Gunn has been particularly open about his fond professional rapport with Chris Pratt and Pom Klementieff, so it’s not about asking if they’ll reunite for another project but rather when. This reunion might be on the horizon sooner than anticipated as Gunn dropped hints about welcoming the two into the folds of DC Studios. The director’s recent interaction on Threads, a micro-blogging platform, further stirred the pot.

A hopeful fan suggested the idea of Pratt and Klementieff playing themselves in the upcoming season of Peacemaker. Gunn’s cryptic reply? He cited unspecified “reasons” that would make such a casting choice unfeasible. “There are reasons I wouldn’t want either of those actors to play themselves in the DCU,” was all he divulged. This naturally raised the question: could any of the Guardians’ stars be venturing into DC territory?

As it turns out, Klementieff has been pretty upfront about her discussions with Gunn about a potential role in the ever-evolving DC franchise. On the glamorous premiere night of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, she shared with Variety (via ComicBook):

“I’m not gonna tell you guys, but we’ve had conversations and we’re making plans already. But nothing is confirmed yet. There would be one specific character but I can’t tell you that. I knew about the character, and I thought the character was f—king cool.”

She hinted at a specific character she found intriguing but, in the spirit of suspense, chose not to reveal more.

Chris Pratt’s involvement is a bit more nebulous, but the speculations are buzzing. Word on the street suggests Pratt could be donning the role of Booster Gold. In a Rolling Stone interview, Pratt gave subtle hints, suggesting he’d consider it if Gunn thought he was the right choice. Pratt stated: “If James thought I was right for it, then you know that I would have to consider it.”

The anticipation surrounding DC’s upcoming films is palpable. With the inception of movies like Creature Commandos (release date pending) and the highly awaited Superman: Legacy slated for July 11, 2025, DC is gearing up for some cinematic spectacles.

In a world of ever-shifting cinematic universes and unpredictable crossovers, one thing seems sure: where James Gunn goes, exciting collaborations follow. Whether or not we’ll see familiar faces from the Guardians of the Galaxy joining DC remains to be seen. However, audiences have come to realize that with Gunn directing, surprises are always around the corner.
