Report: Dolphins’ Mostert, NFL TD leader, out vs. Ravens

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert – who leads the NFL in touchdowns this season – is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, report Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Mostert was a limited participant at practice Friday after missing sessions on Wednesday and Thursday due to ankle and knee injuries.

The 31-year-old is enjoying a career year in 2023, topping 1,000 rushing yards for the first time while leading the league with 18 touchdowns on the ground. He’s also racked up a Dolphins single-season record 21 scrimmage TDs, tied with Christian McCaffrey for the most in the NFL.

Because of injuries, Mostert has played just one full season since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He missed one contest in 2022, his first year with Miami.

The veteran tailback isn’t the only key Dolphins starter who will miss Week 17. Star receiver Jaylen Waddle was also ruled out due to a high ankle sprain.

With Mostert sidelined, Miami is expected to rely on rookie De’Von Achane and veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. at running back. Achane took the league by storm and amassed 120-plus scrimmage yards in three of his first four NFL appearances before going down with a knee injury. Though the third-round pick has been active in the Dolphins’ past four games, he has yet to rush for 100 yards again.

There’s a lot at stake for Miami and Baltimore on Sunday. The Dolphins can clinch the AFC East and keep their chances alive for the AFC’s No. 1 seed with a win. A Ravens victory, however, would give Baltimore the AFC North title and the conference’s top seed.
