“Only one hero hits this hard,” declares the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff series, Knuckles, for which the first trailer has now been released. Starring Idris Elba as the titular warrior echidna, reprising the role after debuting as the Sega character in 2022’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the series will follow the beloved Knuckles on his own adventure as he settles on planet Earth…and looks for battles wherever he can find them.

The Knuckles spinoff will take place between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the upcoming sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 3, with an official logline revealing that the series will follow Knuckles as he “agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.”

Knuckles is now set for release on April 26, 2024, and will debut on Paramount+.

The Sonic the Hedgehog TV spinoff will star several A-list actors alongside Idris Elba. The spinoff’s ensemble cast includes Cary Elwes, Stockard Channing, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel. This is on top of the already stacked cast, with Idris Elba (leading the show as Knuckles) and Adam Pally (reprising his role as Wade Whipple from the film franchise). The cast also includes recurring and guest stars such as Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor, Rory McCann, and Tika Sumpter, reprising her role as Maddie​​.

Notably, the creative team from the previous films is returning for Knuckles. Jeff Fowler, the director of the films, will be directing the pilot episode. The executive producers for the series are Fowler, Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington, Toru Nakahara, and Idris Elba. Directors Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker will also be contributing to the series.

John Whittington, Brian Schacter, and James Madejski will form the writing team. Whittington, who has previously worked on Sonic the Hedgehog, will be the head writer. The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has enjoyed commercial success. The sophomore effort from the franchise managed to earn $405.4 million in global sales. The film is also one of the most re-watched movies in the Paramount+ platform.

In the series, the audience will be watching the humorous and action-filled journey of Knuckles as he trains Wade Whipple to become an echidna warrior. The series will fill in the gap between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The latest movie is already slated to hit the screens on December 20, 2024.

Knuckles Is Due to Land on Paramount+ in April

The Knuckles supporting cast bring with them an impressive range of experiences and accolades. Cary Elwes is known for his roles in films like Glory, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Days of Thunder, and Hot Shots. He is set to appear in the next installment of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One. Stockard Channing who has been a 13-time Emmy nominee and 3-time Emmy winner, is known for numerous roles in The West Wing, The Matthew Shepard Story, and Grease. Christopher Lloyd is a Hollywood veteran with ninety films under his belt. He is best known for his roles in the Back To the Future trilogy, Addams Family, and Addams Family Values.

Paul Scheer, an SAG Award winner, has been seen in Showtime’s Black Monday and will be featured in the Netflix film Family Leave. Finally, Emmy winner Rob Huebel has recently finished production on Goosebumps for Disney+ and can be seen currently on Max’s hit comedy Sex Lives Of College Girls and Netflix’s You People with Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill.

Knuckles is poised to be the next big thing in the world of live-action series, based on the track records of the Sonic the Hedgehog films. The show is a testament to the evolving and expanding Sonic the Hedgehog universe.
