The creative genius behind The Baxters, Karen Kingsbury, didn’t begin her literary career penning the various Baxter-related series. In fact, the author’s first published work was actually a non-fiction, true-crime tale, Missy’s Murder: Passion, Betrayal, and Murder in Southern California, which was published in 1991. Today, in addition to the Prime Video series, Kingsbury’s Baxter-Family book, Someone Like You, is getting the big-screen treatment, and the film adaptation of the same name hits theaters on April 2. But first, The Baxters is dropping for fans to stream and binge-watch. Kingsbury said in a recent interview (per Variety):
“Since the day Roma Downey asked for my blessing in making the Baxter family literary series into a televised show, I have dreamed that it might find a home on Prime Video. Many millions of readers are going to be thrilled over this news. It is a dream come true.”
In addition to starring as the Baxter family’s matriarch, Roma Downey also serves as an executive producer on the project. Downey said:
With over 25 million fans of the Baxter series books, we know audiences are going to love this family drama brought to life. And I am personally so excited to bring more inspirational content to Prime Video.
