Beetlejuice 2 Trailer Officially Confirms Batman Returns Reunion

Tim Burton’s return to the world of Beetlejuice this year has now been confirmed to also be an unexpected Batman Returns reunion thanks to a blink-and-you-miss-it moment in the new trailer for the supernatural comedy. About halfway through the trailer, a three-second clip confirms that Danny DeVito will make a cameo in the movie, bringing the actor back together with Michael Keaton and director Burton for the first time since their collaborative Batman movie.

While the footage is fleeting, and it does not confirm whether DeVito’s character will share any screen time with Keaton’s Ghost with the Most, following their hilarious Batman moment at this year’s Oscars ceremony, fans will be happy just to have them sharing the screen spiritually (no pun intended) if nothing else.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s new trailer has given a broader idea of what to expect from Burton’s long-awaited – and much delayed – return to the world of Bio-Exorcists and sandworms. The sequel brings back original star Keaton along with Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz. Joining them are newcomers Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci. The film’s official synopsis reads:

“Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic, and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”

Michael Keaton Had to Be Coaxed Back to the Role of Betelgeuse

Michael Keaton has recently shared his enthusiasm to be returning to another of his old roles, but also revealed that he was initially skeptical about reprising his role for fear of damaging the legacy of the 1988 movie. However, it seems that once he was finally back on set working with Burton again, it was like the last 36 years just slipped away. Speaking previously to Empire Magazine, Keaton said:

“It’s so fun, it’s so great. We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie… making stuff up, making stuff happen, improvising and riffing, but literally handmade stuff like people creating things with their hands and building something. F*ckin’ great. It’s the most fun I’ve had working on a movie in I can’t tell you how long.”

Prior to that, Keaton explained to People, that he was “hesitant” about reviving the role, because if it was going to be done, then it had to be done right. He said:

“We thought, ‘You got to get this right. Otherwise, just don’t do it. Let’s just go on with our lives and do other things.’ So I was hesitant and cautious, and [Burton] was probably equally as hesitant and cautious over all these years. Once we got there, I said, ’OK, let’s just go for it. Let’s just see if we can do it, if we can pull this off.’”
