A Quiet Place: Day One star Lupita Nyong’o thinks the film series has endless storyline possibilities. Nyong’o stars in the prequel spin-off, which takes place in New York City on the first day of the invasion, as Sam. This is her character’s introduction to the A Quiet Place series, and as Nyong’o sees it, there could be many other characters for the franchise to explore. During a conversation with SFX magazine (via GamesRadar), Nyong’o shared why the A Quiet Place film series “could go on forever.”
“What I love about this whole franchise is that in this alien invasion story, there are so many opportunities to follow different people on day one itself. We narrow in on these two characters, but there’s how many billion people in the world…? This franchise could go on forever!”
A Quiet Place: Day One is a spin-off of the A Quiet Place franchise conceived by John Krasinski. The film is set at the beginning of the invasion as humanity scrambles to survive, before the events of the original film, with Lupita Nyong’O leading the cast, directed by Michael Sarnoski.

Expand
While we don’t know about forever just yet, another film in the series has been confirmed. A Quiet Place Part Three will see John Krasinski and Emily Blunt back in action, as the film is set to catch up with the Abbott family, the focal characters in A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II. While the franchise could certainly expand, Part Three will likely be the last we see of the Abbotts, as Blunt previously shared the film would be the third and final installment (not counting the spinoff). Krasinski, who directed the original 2018 film and its 2020 sequel, is expected to direct Part Three.
A Quiet Place: Day One won’t center on a family working together to stay alive but will follow strangers connected only through this occurrence- an invasion by blind alien creatures with a heightened sense of hearing. This dynamic shifts the tone, according to Nyong’o:
“I would say it has a different tone, as you’re following new characters. In the two previous films, the connectivity of the characters is intrinsic because they’re family, so you immediately understand why they need to stay together. With this, we’re meeting characters that are only brought together by this catastrophe, so it’s like, how do two people who are perfect strangers react to survival moments such as this? That offers a new kind of tension and new friction to this universe.”
Lupita Nyong’o on Her A Quiet Place: Day One Co-Stars
Paramount Pictures
A Quiet Place: Day One’s other protagonist is portrayed by Joseph Quinn, who stars as Eric in the film. During a recent interview with Glamour, Nyong’o had nothing but praise for her co-star, telling the publication:
“He listens and he’s very surprising. You don’t know what he’s going to do next, and that makes it really exciting because you can’t prepare too much.”
Despite a solid partnership with Quinn, Nyong’o admits she had a rocky start with another co-star: a furry friend that forced her into “cat therapy.”
“I asked the director Michael Sarnoski if there was any way that we could change the animal. I suggested an armadillo; he was not having it.”
Nyong’o admits she had to learn a lot about herself and the animal before she felt comfortable, but as it turns out, things took a turn for the better. Nyong’o enjoyed working with the feline so much that she ended up adopting a cat – named Yoyo – for herself after going through a breakup.
“I guess the best anecdote for when you feel poorly taken care of is to take care of something. And I took care of Yoyo and he pried my heart open.”
