Luka rues Game 2 loss: ‘I’ve got to do way better’

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic took accountability for his team’s 105-98 loss to the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

“I think my turnovers and my missed free throws cost us the game,” Doncic said postgame. “I’ve got to do way better in those two categories. At the end of the day, we got to make shots to win the game.”

The Slovenian star recorded eight turnovers in the defeat, his highest total through 19 playoff games. He also missed four free throws, the most for a Mavericks player in Sunday’s defeat.

However, Doncic shined offensively, scoring a game-high 32 points, along with 11 rebounds and 11 assists, in 42 minutes.

The Celtics’ defense forced 15 turnovers, with the Mavericks conceding 21 points. Kyrie Irving and Daniel Gafford had two turnovers apiece.

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd praised Doncic’s performance, calling him a “special player,” according to The Associated Press.

Game 3 of the NBA Finals is Wednesday in Dallas.
