Cameron Young shoots 59, 13th-sub 60 round in TOUR histor

Welcome to the sub-60 club, Cameron Young.

The 27-year-old American carded an 11-under 59 at the Travelers Championship on Saturday. It’s the 13th sub-60 round in PGA TOUR history and first since Scottie Scheffler fired a 59 at the 2020 Northern Trust at TPC Boston.

Young jarred a nine-footer for par on 18 to secure the feat.

“It was a lot of fun to do,” Young told Golf Channel after his round. “I feel like I really controlled my mind well all day.”

Young tore up TPC River Highlands, which is roughly a two-hour drive from where he grew up in Scarborough, New York. He got off to a scorching-hot start, sitting at 5-under par through four holes, highlighted by a 142-yard eagle hole out No. 3.

Young finished with a 28 on the front nine and a 31 on the back. His round included two eagles, seven birdies, and no bogeys.

Young only hit 6-of-14 fairways but found 15-of-18 greens in regulation. He needed just 24 putts. He entered Saturday sitting T43 but found himself T1 following the conclusion of his round.

The 2022 Rookie of the Year has twice finished in the top three in majors but is still looking for his first career PGA TOUR win.

Jim Furyk is responsible for two of the 13 sub-60 rounds, carding a 59 at the 2013 BMW Championship and the only 58 in TOUR history, which coincidentally came at the 2016 Travelers Championship.
