Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has been giving audiences more of the classic humor and charm that started in The Big Bang Theory. Picking up where Young Sheldon ends, the sitcom depicts life for Sheldon’s brother Georgie and his wife Mandy. The series, which is centered around familial life, seems like the perfect show to have a Christmas episode. However, one of the creators of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has confirmed the first season won’t. As disappointing as the reason may be, it makes sense for the show’s tone.

It’s Just Not Christmas Without Sheldon
One of the biggest appeals of Christmas episodes of sitcoms is having all the characters together, sharing their love for each other. However, it wouldn’t really be Christmas without the man who started it all, Sheldon Cooper. Sheldon was a fan-favorite in The Big Bang Theory and the focus of its prequel series Young Sheldon, so it would be disappointing to have a Christmas special without him.
Some of Sheldon’s relatives have made appearances in a few episodes of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, including Sheldon’s grandma, his mother Mary, and his sister Missy. However, Sheldon won’t be making the same kind of guest appearance because he’s living in California while studying at Caltech. Also, if you’ll pardon us peeking behind the curtain, this would require the presence of Iain Armitage, who has not signed on to Georgie & Mandy.
The Big Bang Theory also indicated that Sheldon never really came home from college after his father’s death. In the season 11 episode “The Sibling Realignment,” a grown-up Georgie says to Sheldon, “You went away to college after dad died. Who do you think took care of everything?”
In the Thanksgiving episode of Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, the writers debated bringing Sheldon back to Texas, but decided not to. In an interview with TVLine, series co-creator Steve Holland said, “There are certain occasions where you could bring him back, but as we were breaking the [episode], it just felt like it was actually going to hurt this story. Often, when a matriarch or a patriarch passes away, the family can splinter, and that’s what is happening here.”
Sheldon doesn’t really celebrate Christmas either, as noted in The Big Bang Theory. It would make less sense for his character’s long-term story if he came back for the holiday. The writers would be backing themselves into a corner and would have a lot of explaining to do to die-hard fans if they brought Sheldon back just for a Christmas episode.
It Was Hard Enough Getting the Coopers Together for One Holiday
Thanksgiving with Georgie and Mandy showed how hard it is for the Cooper family to return to life without George Sr. Georgie and Mandy worked to try to get Missy, Mary, and Meemaw to come to Thanksgiving, but it just didn’t feel natural for them. The episode helped demonstrate the importance of the series, as it shows how the Coopers continue to live after losing two family members, one to death and the other to college.

‘Georgie & Mandy’ Could Still Bring Back the Most Unexpected Fan Favorite ‘Young Sheldon’ Star
Lance Barber very quickly became a fan-favorite as George Cooper Sr. and ‘Georgie & Mandy’s showrunner wants him in the series somehow.
It’s unfortunate that the first season of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage won’t seize the opportunity to finally show viewers a Cooper family Christmas. Because Young Sheldon was told from Sheldon’s perspective, it never had a Christmas episode, and with him out of the way, now would be the perfect time to show audiences a Christmas in Texas. However, it makes sense to let the death of George Sr. linger for a bit, and hopefully another season of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will have the characters ready to celebrate Christmas.
The Lack of Sheldon Is Sad But Good for Georgie and Mandy
Viewers might be disappointed that Sheldon hasn’t shown up yet in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. With The Big Bang Theory running for 12 seasons, and Young Sheldon running for another seven, the character has been around for nearly two decades. Cashing in on the character’s popularity so early in the first season of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage would prevent the series from setting itself apart from Young Sheldon.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Has One Character Who Is Completely Misunderstood
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has one character who seems to fall into the background and is seemingly misunderstood.
It’s been interesting to see how Georgie and Mandy have adjusted to living with Mandy’s family. They already lived with the Coopers at the end of Young Sheldon, so making the Coopers occasional characters keeps the series fresh. Watching Mandy and Audrey fight or Georgie working at the tire shop is exciting, and there’s still so much to explore. Plus, Mandy’s brother Connor fills in for the empty space of “strange brother” with Sheldon’s absence.
Sheldon will certainly be welcomed by viewers the next time he makes an appearance, but there’s still plenty of time for that to happen. For now, it’s important to focus on Georgie and Mandy because they already have such intriguing stories as a young couple struggling to make it on their own.
