MCU’s Anthony Mackie Shares His View on Comparisons Between Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk & President Trump

Anthony Mackie
has been making some bold statements about the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: Brave New World
, and not all of them have been met with appreciation. After having to retread comments made about how “American” Captain America is, he has turned his attention to the many comparisons being made between a big, red-faced president and Brave New World’s Red Hulk.

Even before the election victory of Donald Trump, online posts about the upcoming MCU movie have been filled with comments pointing out similarities between the transformed version of Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Ross and the new Commander in Chief of the United States. Naturally, as more footage and images of the mighty Red Hulk smashing the White House have been released, the comments have continued to grow in volume. For Mackie, though, he just wants people to go, see the movie and “chill the f*ck out.” In comments to Esquire, Mackie’s full quote reads:

“I hope, as a country, we’re tired of all the political jousting. Let’s just go to the movies and chill the f*ck out. We could’ve made this motherf*cker yellow and it would’ve been a problem.”

Obviously, when Captain America: Brave New World arrives in cinemas, those heading into theaters on the movie’s opening weekend will probably have plenty more things to talk about than whether Red Hulk’s rampage is something that we will see happen in the real White House in the coming years.

Will ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Win Over the Box Office?

The first Marvel Studios theatrical release since last summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine is something of a conundrum right now. The film is set to land a reasonable, if not Hulk-smashing, $85-$95 million opening domestic weekend, and it has been listed as one of the most anticipated movies of the year in several polls. However, there are plenty who have shown no interest in seeing the movie, and others who have picked apart any and every bit of CGI and story point shown so far in the many trailers. This is the way, as someone from another big Disney-owned franchise might say.

During the same interview with Esquire, Mackie shared his own short review of the movie, revealing how he felt after watching the final cut of the film. While everything is open to interpretation, the comments are not overly enthusiastic, but instead quite straight-forward, to the point, and pretty much seem to match the expectations of many fans. Mackie said:

“It’s literally the best movie it can be. It stays in the lines of Marvel. It stays in the lines of Captain America, and it’s fun and it’s big.”

We have just over two weeks to wait until Captain America: Brave New World finally gets the MCU rolling again, for better or worse. There is a lot of expectation hanging on the movie, and how it performs at the box office will be a good indicator of where Marvel’s year is heading. Can one big Red Hulk fight scene drive fans into cinemas? Or is Brave New World destined to be another Marvel movie that fans will be happy to watch later on Disney+?
