Two of the wildest, most over-the-top action spy films of the past decade have stormed to the top of Hulu’s streaming charts to do an unexpected double in the top two positions on the platform. Both Kingsman: The Secret Service
and its sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle
, are currently holding the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the platform, respectively, proving that even years after their theatrical runs, these chaotic, stylish thrillers from Matthew Vaughn are firm fan favorites.
Directed by Vaughn and based on the comic series by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, Kingsman: The Secret Service burst into cinemas with the kind of sharp-edged, tongue-in-cheek tribute to the James Bond franchise that Vaughn has now done on several occasions. The film follows Eggsy (Taron Egerton), a street-smart Londoner recruited into a secret spy agency by gentleman spy Harry Hart (Colin Firth), just as billionaire villain Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson) unleashes a plot to cull the global population. With some extreme scenes of violence, plenty of chaotic comedic fight choreography – if you have seen the church massacre scene, then this needs no further explanation – and plenty of low-jabs at the spy and action genres in general, the movie became an instant hit, and it took no time for a franchise to be born.

Why the Kingsman Series Never Took Off
The Kingsman franchise started off strong with The Secret Service, but fell off with The Golden Circle and The King’s Man. Here’s what happened:
The 2017 sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, expanded on the premise, and pushed things even further in terms of the ludicrous plotline, crude humor, and enough action to make the film challenge every espionage movie ever made in terms of action set pieces. This time, the action expands across the Atlantic as Eggsy and the Kingsman crew join forces with their American counterparts, the Statesman, played by heavy-hitters like Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, and Jeff Bridges. Julianne Moore steps in as the gleefully unhinged villain Poppy, and the film doubles down on its signature cocktail of action, comedy, brutal fight scenes and some complete oddities, including robotic dogs and an Elton John cameo.
‘Kingsman’ Is Kicking Ass on Hulu
20th Century Studios
So why the sudden surge of interest on Hulu? Both Kingsman movies have only recently been added to Hulu’s library, with the first movie joining towards the end of April, and its sequel arriving in the last few days. One big question that will be asked now, is whether this could be enough to revive plans for a new movie, Kingsman: The Blue Blood, which was reportedly abandoned back in late 2024, but could still be on the table.
The Kingsman films’ rise to the top of Hulu’s movie chart proves the power of streaming once again, as these movies are no stranger to one streamer or another. Yet wherever they land next, there is always an audience waiting for them. Vaughn’s brand of action-comedy certainly draws a crowd, and that includes his “other” spy movie, Argylle, the Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard movie that tanked at the box office but then refused to die once it arrived on Prime Video. Whether Vaughn will get to return to either of these franchises is yet to be seen, but it is clear that there is still an audience out there who loves the Kingsman franchise, as surely this latest streaming success will have someone sitting up and taking note.
