Mariah Carey has only recently found out that Katy Perry ventured into space earlier this year – see what she had to say about the feat below.
Carey is set to release her new album ‘Here For It All’ on September 26 – you can pre-order and pre-save the record here. Ahead of the album’s reveal, she released the single ‘Type Dangerous’ in early June. ‘Type Dangerous’ marked Mariah Carey’s first solo release since 2019’s standalone song ‘In The Mix’.
To promote the upcoming record, Carey appeared on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, where Mills asked if she would ever consider going to space “like Katy did”. Mariah appeared puzzled, asking “Did she go to space? Where did she go?”
Mills filled her in on the details, before Carey responded: “She’s like floating in the… and this is true? Wow. All right, Katy… I’m not mad at her, that’s pretty amazing.” Mills later asked Carey if she’d want to go to space, leading to the ‘Touch My Body’ singer replying, “I think I’ve done enough.”

Perry embarked on the highly criticised space flight earlier in April, where she was one member of the first all-female space mission in history. During their voyage, Perry sang Louis Armstrong’s ‘What A Wonderful World’ and revealed the setlist for her ‘Lifetimes’ tour. She was later seen holding a daisy to the sky and kissing the ground upon returning from space.
The trip sparked memes and controversy, and she has also garnered criticism from other celebrities for taking the space flight. Actor Olivia Munn, for example, branded Perry “gluttonous”, Emily Ratajkowski said she was similarly “disgusted” by the space flight and Lily Allen called the mission “out of touch”, saying there was “no fucking reason” for it.
Allen has since walked back her comments: “There was actually no need for me to bring her name into it, and it was my own internalized misogyny. I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and it was just completely unnecessary to pile on with her. I disagree with what it was that they did, but she wasn’t the only person that did it. She was possibly the most famous and the one that divides people the most.”

As for Perry’s new album, NME gave the record a two-star review and described it as “a serviceable but slightly dull collection on which Perry struggles to relocate her old sense of fun”.
