Good news, anime fans! The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity is finally being released on Netflix. Episodes stream weekly on Sundays, with the first two episodes already available and the third episode set to release on September 14. The romantic comedy series, based on the manga by Saka Mikami, follows students at rival high schools. The manga is highly regarded, with multiple award nominations and top rankings, in addition to 7.5 million copies in circulation as of September 2025.
Chidori Public High School has a reputation for accepting delinquent boys, and Kikyo Private Academy Girls’ High School is known for accepting wealthy and honorable girls. The schools are directly adjacent to each other, and the students do not socialize with one another. In fact, the girls often snub the boys, and the boys try to act like they’re tough.
A Budding Romance in ‘The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity’

Obviously, that means at least two of the students from the rival schools will meet. Rintaro Tsumugi occasionally helps out at his parents’ bakery, where he meets Kaoruko Waguri, a regular who can eat a lot of cake. They instantly have chemistry, and Waguri runs away, embarrassed. Tsumugi believes it is because he is tall and scary, as that seems to be the common reaction to him.
The first two episodes are sweet and wholesome. It is a realistic slice-of-life anime in that each of the high school students is dealing with their own issues, such as bullying, seeking relationships, and the desire to be understood. Mainly, Tsumugi is haunted by how other kids perceive him. The other kids talk about him behind his back and make assumptions based on gossip. Waguri is innocent and maybe a little naive at times, standing outside the Chidori gates for Tsumugi, which disrupts the students of both schools. A romance is definitely blooming, and with the students of each school detesting each other based on rumors alone, drama is sure to ensue.
The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity is the perfect anime to roll into autumn with a hot beverage and a fuzzy blanket. The cozy art style and story are sure to bring anime fans some much-needed escape from the pressures and demands of the real world. Unlike most shows on Netflix, which are released all at once in a binge format, The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity is a bit different. The first two episodes were released simultaneously on the platform, with a weekly release schedule to follow. The 13th and final episode of Season 1 will premiere on Netflix on November 23.
