“Saturday Night Live” is switching things up with its next host: Elon Musk.
The coveted slot, usually occupied by British actors like Carey Mulligan or former boy band members like Nick Jonas, is now reserved on May 8 for Tesla CEO and SpaceX chief engineer, Musk.
He’ll be joined by musical guest Miley Cyrus, who in November released her latest album, “Plastic Hearts.”
Musk’s “SNL” hosting endeavor comes as the business mogul’s SpaceX launched its second full-duration mission to the International Space Station when four astronauts strapped into a Crew Dragon capsule took off Friday.
The official Twitter page for “SNL” announced the news in its usual format, a photo of sticky notes with the guest’s name. “SNL” captioned the tweet with three rocket ship emojis.
People were quick to react to the announcement.
“Oh my. It’ll either be really great or totally cringeworthy,” wrote Carolyn Zinko on Twitter.
@FoxxNavarro23 tweeted: “That Elon Musk SNL will be as bad, if not worse, than the trump episode from 2015.”
Josh Gondelman tweeted, “Elon Musk hosting SNL is huge for guys still making ‘that’s what she said’ jokes who think they’d be great at hosting SNL.”
Some peoplethought that Musk hosting “SNL” was a joke.
“Is this a prank?” commented @hayleyreneescott on Instagram.
“SNL” last aired April 10 with host Mulligan of Oscar-nominated “Promising Young Woman” and musical guest Kid Cudi.
Musk is not a stranger to the entertainment world. He’s been dating singer Grimes, real name Claire Boucher, who now goes by “c,” since May 2018. The two welcomed a baby boy last year and named him “X Æ A-Xii.”
Grimes (as she was known then) and Musk made headlines after announcing the birth of their son, and his unusual name, on Twitter in May last year. A day later, Grimes tweeted a full breakdown of the name choice:
