With its practical separates and polished black dresses, Ganni’s Joyride collection exuded the carefree Copenhagen style and joie de vivre Creative Director Ditte Reffstrup sought to convey. Unveiled against the backdrop of a sunset, on a pier decked out in colorful chalk drawings, the spring 2023 edit was inspired by bike rides in Denmark. “We called it Joyride because it’s about Copenhagen being the place where our heart is,” Reffstrup wrote in an official statement. “There’s a feeling about being in the city in summertime that I can’t quite explain, the energy is pulsing, it really gets your beat going.”
The catwalk opened with a dynamic head-to-toe blue denim look, consisting of a cropped jacket worn with nothing underneath and midrise jeans. It was the first in a trio of denim looks that debuted a collaboration with Levi’s. The ready-to-wear label also worked with British heritage brand Barbour on a utilitarian jacket and Icelandic activewear label 66° North on a duo of coordinated jackets and sets.
Other offerings ranged from colorful crop tops to textured mini and midi dresses, all infused with an air of playfulness. Taking that theme a step further, the models completed their daytime attire with patterned cowboy boots and top-handle crochet bags. For the evening dresser, the brand provided some glamorous options, including a blazer dress in a vivid shade of blue, a draped dress with shoulder cutouts in black, and a sparkly, sheer slip.
Leave it to Ganni to translate current fashion trends — from reimagined denim to sheer dresses — into elevated off-duty looks with a uniquely Scandinavian edge. What the collection lacked in cohesion it made up for with a diverse range of options seen on different models.
