Just a few weeks following her runway debut, Zaya Wade is already making fashion statements. On March 30, the 15-year-old model attended the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles outfitted in head-to-toe Miu Miu. Posing alongside stepmom Gabrielle Union, Zaya’s chic ensemble featured a black cropped jacket and coordinating skirt with giant cargo pockets. And for the star of the show, she wore the controversial thong boots in a stark white, carrying a matching logo purse.
Union, on the other hand, chose a hooded rainbow beaded gown for the event. With help from Thomas Christos Kikis, who also styled Zaya, the “Being Mary Jane” actor teamed the intricate Moschino creation with jewelry from Effy. While family members Dwyane Wade and 4-year-old Kaavia were not in attendance, the stylish duo smiled for photos and held hands on the red carpet.
Since its debut on Miu Miu’s spring 2023 runway, the knee-high thong boot has caused quite a stir. A cross between a boot and a sandal, the viral footwear has been worn by the likes of Rita Ora, Union, and Zaya. Prior to the GLAAD Awards, Zaya wore the same shoes in her Dazed magazine cover shoot for the publication’s spring 2023 issue.
Boots aside, Zaya has been a Miu Miu girl since her foray into the fashion world. She first attended the designer’s spring 2023 show in October 2022, where she wore a version of the viral low-rise miniskirt, and most recently, she made her runway debut to model the fall 2023 collection. At Paris Fashion Week, she walked the runway with confidence as her parents cheered her on and teared up from the front row.
