The announcement has every true crime aficionado buzzing. The rappa-the-producer keeps his followers on the edge of their seats by presenting yet another series, ‘The Gilgo Beach Murders,’ premiering on Peacock on June 10. The Washingtonian went on to shout in all caps, “MUST SEE TV!!!” while endorsing his production companies of @50centaction and @bransoncognac.

The Gilgo Beach case is one of the better-known Long Island serial killer investigations that were opened in 2010, when police discovered 10 sets of human remains along Ocean Parkway. Most of the victims were sex workers and became over time to be known as the “Gilgo Four” in the media. An unsolved case, it has been the subject of many documentaries and podcasts throughout the years, making 50 Cent’s dramatized retelling one of the highest-profile true crime projects set to premiere this summer.
Upon 50 having posted this announcement, the comment section very quickly started flooding with reactions. One user took this as a rare break from the ongoing Diddy trolling and professed, “Rare break from the diddy trolling, I think ima check it out.” Another user offered, “Plot Twists like a MF,” with fire emojis, implying there will be some heavy-hitting and shocking revelations made in the series.
Others opposed, however, feeling uneasy about the production decisions. One client said, “disgusting and disrespectful to shoot the interview in the basement with the safe door there….exploitation,” while another was unequivocal, “All involved are going to hell” regarding the controversial location for filming.
The basement, perhaps, hinted at 50 Cent’s infamous way of doing interviews within his home’s secure basement area that features a vault door in plain view-something some feel is incongruous in light of the conversation concerning real-life tragedies. Such criticism falls along the same path as previous discussion about the ethics of true crime entertainment, skirting theeline of exploitation.
By then, the madness had descended, and some relief came. One bewildered follower asked, “WTF is peacock is that diddy’s nickname,” completely missing the streaming platform reference. Meanwhile, several fans used the opportunity to flirt with comments like “You need more children 50, find a girl” and “get you a woman and make it happen,” with lots of heart-eye emojis.
Post his music career, 50 has coolly developed into a television producer of a lot of clout with Power and other spinoffs under his G-Unit production company. His flair for more rough and gritty storytelling has already found great synergy with the dark storyboard of Gilgo Beach. Suffice it to say that while they’ve questioned the tastelessness of the project, the interest that the chilling, unsolved case invokes in anyone is concrete.
This show announcement comes just as a frantic time for 50 himself, who has, lately, dominated headlines for his relentless trolling of Diddy as the music mogul fights his legal battles. That 50 Cent is diverting his attention to this true-crime project indicates how confident he is that it will make an impact. Whether it will actually give and uncover some big revelations or just outright profiteer off some tragedy remains to be seen when it drops on Peacock next month.

What is, indeed, a prompt heading into the furthest future: whenever a project is attached to 50 Cent, people start looking. The comment crowd has already shown that whether people are excited, skeptical, or just looking for drama, everyone has an opinion about it. And that is precisely how the Queens-bred mogul has wanted it all along.
