In her post, she let it be known that she is presenting the Houston premiere of her ballet score, “Villanelle For Times,” an event never before staged outside New York City. Also to be presented is “Not Necessarily In Arms Reach,” for two tubas. In addition, “On Dissonance” will feature the works of Black women classical composers Tania León and Julia Perry, with Jeri Lynne Johnson conducting the sets.
Her excitement poured forth for the Ocean Of Soul at Texas Southern University, to whom she gave open credit for first inspiring her love of writing for brass instrumentation. Solange facetiously declared that she must make a stop at Shipley’s for some donuts before deciding on what to wear for the big event.
The comment section was a historical sea of love and hype. Fans and worthy friends celebrated this momentous day, showering the post with excitement for her homecoming to Houston and impending gala. “We love you! Welcome home,” said one user, and another followed, “This going to be such a treat for us this month!” The energy was so infectious that other artists got involved, one lightly joking, “I wanna hear you play that Hammond.”
Meanwhile, it was all about the tickets. One lucky concert-goer bragged about having their tickets saying, “Tickets secured.” This declaration unleashed a mini thread of envy and queries from those scrambling to secure theirs. Another fan said, “I want to go soooo bad. I might have to splurge on the tickets rq.”
There’s more: Solange announced Eldorado Ballroom Zine Edition 2 (Los Angeles) for preorder on the Saint Heron website. The comment section instantly erupted in hope and hype with one user pleading, “We need some at Kindred Stories”, referring to the beloved Houston bookstore.
The love of the homecoming is not only for the music- there is such pride and sense of belonging that is radiated back to Houston by Solange. One commenter created a line in suspension, “So proud of you. And I am so grateful that you brought this to Houston.”
The kind of hysteria that will surround the night at Jones Hall will definitely leave many happy memories to cherish. Solange- more than a concert; more than the tribute to her origins, and to her people and home that raised her. Should this comment section be taken as a prelude, Houston has already geared for an unforgettable spread.
