Deadpool & Wolverine is only a couple of months away, and that means it is time for plenty of trash-talking between the movie’s leads Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The online “feud” between the pair has been ongoing from long before the prospect of Jackman returning to screens as Wolverine was ever a consideration, but as the movie’s release date approaches, Reynolds has come out all guns blazing with a new jab at his best buddy.

Franchise Marvel
Jackman’s return to the role of Wolverine was a surprise to many for the simple reason that he hung up his claws back 2017 with the release of Logan. This exit from the Marvel X-Men franchise came just a year after Reynolds successfully brought Deadpool to cinemas in his first solo movie – something Jackman has since said really made him regret “retiring” from the role. Now, his about-turn has given Reynolds the ammunition to call him a “coward” and a “liar.” All in a fun way, obviously.
Speaking to AP Entertainment, Reynolds took his shots at Jackman, something that is more than likely going to see a retaliation at some point in the near future. Reynolds said:
“Well, I mean, I think we all can now see that Hugh is a liar, you know? A bald-faced horrible coward and a liar. Here he is, back again. You’ll have to find out how he comes back, because that’s one of the most fun aspects of the movie.”
While some fans still appreciate the banter between two grown men who don’t mind acting up for the benefit of social media, others have found the constant fake animosity between them boring. However, it seems that there is no stopping this bandwagon, especially with their team-up now being so close.
Hugh Jackman Was Warned Off Returning By Kevin Feige
Marvel Studios
While Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine is a big part of why so many fans are hyped up for Deadpool & Wolverine, not everyone was convinced that his return should happen. One of those with doubts was Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, who originally attempted to dissuade Jackman from potentially undoing his perfect ending in Logan.
“I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back’,” Feige previously recalled. “‘You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo.’”

However, the twisting and turning power of the multiverse has ensured that Logan’s place in the story will remain intact, and this version of Wolverine is not the same as the one fans have come to know and love. Of course, he is the same Wolverine, albeit with a different costume and from another universe, but what is important is that his Deadpool & Wolverine story will not tarnish the legacy of what has gone before it. What it could do is give Jackman’s time as Wolverine a very profitable footnote, as Deadpool & Wolverine is looking to break records when it arrives in cinemas on July 26.
