The world of superhero movies is filled with incredible physical transformations that actors undergo to accurately portray their respective characters. However, Emma Corrin recently revealed that they were denied a personal trainer for their upcoming villainous role in Deadpool & Wolverine. Corrin plays Cassandra Nova in the new movie, an Omega-level mutant with close ties to Professor Charles Xavier. Corrin appears alongside Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), who both had to get back in ridiculous shape to portray their respective characters, but Corrin was spared the grueling workouts for the movie.
Sitting down with British GQ, Corrin discussed their role in the new MCU movie. Corrin said they were ready to undertake the right of passage that is a superhero transformation. However, Corrin’s request for a personal trainer to get in superhero shape was denied by Marvel Studios, not out of malice, but to spare the actor the unnecessary challenge. Corrin explained:

This is funny because I did ask if I could have a personal trainer and they said no
. They said I don’t have to undergo any physical training.
I was so ready to undergo a huge transformation, but they were like, ‘That’s absolutely not required of you. Please stand down.’ I tried.
”
Hugh Jackman Set the Standard for Superhero Transformations
The idea of superhero workouts and body transformations blew up in the 2010s, when the MCU’s popularity boomed. A large portion of a superhero movie’s marketing drew attention to the ridiculous workout regime and diet the starring actor had to undertake months before shooting began. Chris Hemsworth has become renowned for adding some serious muscle to his frame for the Thor movies, while Chris Pratt completely transformed himself from the lovable Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation to Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Emma Corrin’s performance as Cassandra Nova in Deadpool & Wolverine was inspired by two very unlikely characters.
However, it was actually Hugh Jackman, who makes his superhero return in Deadpool & Wolverine, that helped to start this trend. Hugh Jackman was cast as Wolverine late into production on Bryan Singer’s X-Men. As a result, he wasn’t given much time to physically prepare for the role before shooting any topless or physical scenes. As a result, Jackman made a point of transforming his body for the character’s return in X-2: X-Men United. Jackman spoke to Dwayne Johnson about getting in shape, and was given a lot of advice about diet and workouts.
Since his appearance in X2, Hugh Jackman has become the modern blueprint for superhero transformations. During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Michael B. Jordan (who played Eric Killmonger in the MCU) heaped praise on Jackman’s physical transformation for Wolverine. Jordan also declared that Hugh Jackman’s physique was the blueprint for actors undertaking superhero roles. Looking at a picture of Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine, Jordan said:
