In one of the most unlikely team-ups, James Cameron has recruited pop superstar Miley Cyrus to record a new original song for Avatar: Fire and Ash. Both Cameron and Cyrus were named Disney Legends as part of the class of 2024 line-up that also included James L. Brooks, Jamie Lee Curtis, Harrison Ford, Angela Bassett, and John Williams. Despite many suspecting that the artist creating the original song for Avatar: Fire and Ash would be Billie Eilish, who teased she was working on a 3D project with Cameron earlier this summer, he is instead working with a fellow Disney Legend.
Miley Cyrus confirmed on her Instagram that she has co-written and recorded a new original song for Avatar: Fire and Ash. Cyrus’ co-writers include Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. The song, titled “Dream As One,” will debut on November 14, ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash’s December 19 release date, according to the official Avatar Instagram account. In her Instagram post, Cyrus spoke about how the film’s themes and her own personal experience informed the song, saying:
“Honored to support Avatar: Fire and Ash with an original song I’ve written with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. Having been personally affected by fire and being rebuilt from the ashes, this project holds profound meaning for me. Thank you, Jim, for the opportunity to turn that experience into musical medicine. The film’s themes of unity, healing, and love resonate deeply within my soul, and to be even a small star in the universe the Avatar family has created is truly a dream come true.”
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Joins Race for the Best Original Song at Oscars

2025 has been a busy year for Miley Cyrus. Her album, Something Beautiful, was released on May 30, 2025, and was accompanied by a musical film the following week. Now, she will have an original song playing during potentially the biggest movie of the year, if Avatar: Fire and Ash follows the $2 billion worldwide totals of its predecessors. While it used to be standard practice for big-event films to feature original songs written and composed by big-name artists, that trend has sadly died down over the past decade, despite soundtracks for films like Barbie and Twisters featuring original songs that became big hits.
The Avatar films have a tradition of featuring original songs that play during their end credits. Leona Lewis recorded “I See You (Theme from Avatar)” for the original 2009 film, while The Weeknd recorded “All is Lost” for Avatar: The Way of Water. All three original songs for Avatar certainly feel like James Cameron going for another seismic hit like Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” for Titanic, which topped the charts in 25 countries, became the best-selling single of 1998, and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
While neither of the previous Avatar songs went on to be nominated for Best Original Song, it will be interesting to see if Miley Cyrus’s “Dream as One” can break through. Many were shocked that Cyrus’ original song from The Last Showgirl, “Beautiful That Way,” was snubbed at the Academy Awards. This year’s race for Best Original Song is already heating up to be a showdown between Sinners and KPop: Demon Hunters, without taking into account the original songs composed for Wicked for Good and the seemingly mandatory Diane Warren nomination. Still, there is a chance that by this time next year, she can be called “Academy Award-nominee Miley Cyrus.”
