Captain America and The Purge actor Frank Grillo will be headlining the new werewolf horror action film Year 2, which has been a hot seller for The Solution Entertainment Group at this year’s European Film Market. Since signing with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) for representation in 2019, Grillo, whose career was already doing pretty, has become one of the hottest actors on the market. According to Screen Daily, in Year 2, Grillo will play scientist Wesley Marshall, a man racing against time to save his family from werewolves.
Year 2 takes place one year after a Supermoon activates a latent gene in humans that triggers lycanthropy whenever a person enters moonlight. Screen Daily describes the plot of the film as follows:

The event led to close to one billion deaths. Now the Supermoon has returned and Marshall must find a cure. When his sister-in-law and niece face a wolf onslaught at their heavily fortified house, he must decide whether to save the world or save his family.
Year 2 is set to begin production in Puerto Rico in May 2022 and is being directed by filmmaker Steven C. Miller, whose feature film debut Automaton Transfusion became a cult classic and catapulted his career, leading to larger Hollywood films like Escape Plan 2: Hades and Line of Duty. Meanwhile, the film was penned by Matthew Kennedy, known for 2020’s Inheritance, starring Lily Collins and Simon Pegg.
The Screen Daily also reports creature build has already started and the design and build for the werewolves is being overseen by Amalgamated Dynamics’ Alec Gillis, who is an Academy Award-winning special effects artist who served as part of the special effects crew on 1986’s Aliens, 1992’s Alien 3, 1997’s Alien Resurrection, 2004’s Alien vs. Predator, 2007’s Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, and 2018’s The Predator.

Frank Grillo the Titular Genre Star
Disney+
Grillo started his acting career appearing in commercials, and he has come a long way since then. Most recently, he appeared in Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, and the fan-favorite Boss Level movie. Grillo is also appearing in This Is the Night with Naomi Watts, Copshop with Gerard Butler, and The Yacht with Ruby Rose.
However, Grillo is best known for successful turns in multiple franchise installments as Sergeant Leo Barnes in The Purge, as well as HYDRA Agent Crossbones in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014 and Captain America: Civil War in 2016. Grillo’s Crossbones was key to the conflict in Civil War. When he tries to detonate a bomb in Lagos, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) uses her powers to send it away, killing multiple bystanders in the process and leading to a chain of events that set up WandaVision.
Despite rumors Crossbones was done with the MCU, Grillo recently returned to voice the character in the animated series What If…? on Disney+. However, in the What If…? timeline, Crossbones is working with the Head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Although the character appears to be more of a good guy in the animated Disney+ series, he does name-check Pierce, suggesting his loyalties may be questionable no matter where he is on the Sacred Timeline!
