Jason Momoa Says Making ‘Chief of War’ Was a “Dream” Come True
Apple TV+
Last year, Jason Momoa discussed making Chief of War for Apple TV+, and how it was a long time coming for the acclaimed movie star. The filmmaker, who has consistently advocated for native Hawaiian and Native American-led storytelling, felt compelled to create Chief of War to fulfill his dream of making a “native Hawaiian tale.” Momoa quickly mentioned Chief of War when asked what project he would develop if he had the financing to “make anything” he wanted.
“I feel like I’m kind of in the middle of it right now. My dream was to make ‘Chief of War.’ I’m making it with Apple, and we just finished the first season so we’re in post right now. So, I’d say that that’s my dream to make this native Hawaiian tale, and we’re doing it.”
With an early August release date, fans of Momoa will finally get to see his creative vision realized in front of and behind the camera. His previous directing efforts include Road to Paloma, a 2014 thriller that he wrote and directed about a Native American on the run from the FBI after avenging the death of his mother. Chief of War will be his most ambitious project yet from a behind-the-scenes standpoint, but one that may prove to be the most creatively fulfilling yet.
