We’ll reportedly be seeing Benoit Blanc’s return to solve his next big mystery in Knives Out 2 this fall. Per Variety, Rian Johnson’s upcoming sequel will be hitting Netflix sometime in Fall 2022. The film is expected to release both in theaters and on Netflix in the last quarter of the year, though a specific date hasn’t yet been named. Word is the movie will first hit the film festival circuit before its debut in theaters and on Netflix.
Other than the fact Rian Johnson is writing and directing, full details still have yet to be revealed about Knives Out 2, so there’s not much known about the plot. What we do know is that Daniel Craig is back as Detective Benoit Blanc. As with the original movie, Knives Out 2 also boasts an impressive ensemble cast alongside Craig. The sequel also stars names like Kathryn Hahn, Ethan Hawke, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, and Madelyn Cline.

The sequel entered development after Netflix spent $450 million for Johnson to write and direct two Knives Out sequels. That’s a steep price, but the company is clearly hoping that the next two installments will find similar success as the first Knives Out. In addition to critical acclaim, Knives Out earned $311 million at the box office, making it a tremendous success with its budget of $40 million. The script was up for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards.

Knives Out 2 Stars Say This One Is Better Than The First
Lionsgate
The stars of Knives Out 2 are confident that the sequel will top the first film. In an interview with People, Dave Bautista felt that the new movie will be better, and that was the impression he got as soon as he read the script. The actor also suggested that the cast of characters is even more interesting this time around.
“I really think it’s going to be as good, if not better, than the first one. I’m always afraid to say that because I don’t want anybody to get offended saying that we’re going to be better, but I really do think this,” Bautista said. “I think the characters are just so much more colorful. I think people are really going to dig this. The characters are just so great. They’re so different. Everybody’s cast so well. I was working with a couple of my castmates and was mesmerized by their performances and just how well they’ve adapted into these characters. I think the characters in this are even more quirky than the first one.”
“I’m so lucky to have Rian in my life,” Daniel Craig has also said of the Knives Out sequel. “He’s such a great writer. That script arrived and I was literally like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I couldn’t believe that he wanted me to play it. I was going, ‘It says Southern accent you went here. Really?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah?’ We’ve just finished the second one, literally weeks ago. They’ve just wrapped up in Serbia. Dare I say it’s better? We’ll see. I don’t want to tempt fate. It’s different, and that’s the amazing thing. It’s still a Benoit Blanc mystery, but it’s very different. I’m very excited about it.”
If the rumors are true, Knives Out 2 will start streaming on Netflix in late 2022.
