Following two months and 10 episodes of must-see television, Landman concluded its explosive Season 1 finale on January 12, 2025. The latest Taylor Sheridan TV creation went out with a bang, setting up a new set of circumstances for Season 2. After weeks of speculation, Paramount+ officially renewed the show for a second season on March 12, with criminally underutilized star Demi Moore having stated that filming will begin sometime in early 2025. As such, it’s time to drill down to see what lies ahead in the riveting oil and gas industry drama.
While Sheridan is known for expanding his TV franchises with bigger and bolder seasons, sequels, and spinoffs, Landman’s second chapter could go in several dramatic directions. However, considering what transpired in Season 1, Episode 10, “The Crumbs of Hope,” it’s safe to assume Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) must deal with the fallout of a dying friend, a vengeful drug cartel, and the mysterious arrival of Galino (Andy Garcia).

What That ‘Landman’ Finale Means for Season 2
As Tommy does all he can to avoid legal culpability, dodge lawsuits, and keep M-Tex Oil atop the gas industry, he faces one hurdle after another until the Season 1 finale ups the ante. After suffering his third heart attack, Monty Miller is admitted to a hospital in Fort Worth. Tommy travels to visit him, where he meets Cami and offers condolences. Alas, Monty succumbs to his poor health and dies from complications due to a heart transplant in Landman’s Season 1 finale, putting the future of M-Tex Oil up in the air.
Before passing away, Monty told Tommy that he wanted him to take over M-Tex Oil once he died. With Monty out of the picture in Season 2, Tommy will undoubtedly take more responsibility in averting major legal crises and keeping the company as profitable as possible.
Of course, Sheridan is no stranger to returning dead characters through flashbacks in previous shows, leading many fans to assume Monty is not dead. However, Wallace confirmed Monty’s demise to Variety in 2025, stating:
“When you take one major player off the board, it opens up opportunities for other players, and I think that’s all I’m at liberty to say at this point.”
Whether the “opportunities for other players” will include new cast members, Cami and Galino are two characters who deserve more shine in Landman Season 2.

Billy Bob Thornton’s Most Underrated Movies, Ranked
Flair for harmonizing vocally aside, Billy Bob Thornton has been in some great movies and is seemingly serially underrated.
Season 2 Has Officially Been Announced & Will Film in 2025
Speaking of Moore, in 2024 the actor accidentally teased filming dates for Landman Season 2 while attending the Cannes Film Festival in May. When asked about her onscreen dynamic with Jon Hamm, Moore declared (via Deadline):
“I thought we looked really good. [Hamm] was lovely, and I’ve known Billy Bob Thornton for a long time. I’ve already completed the first season, and I’m excited for us to start the second, which will be at the beginning of next year.”
After weeks of anxious speculation from devoted fans, a second season of Landman was officially confirmed to be in the works at Paramount+, with Deadline first reporting the news on March 12, 2025. The renewal isn’t surprising since the riveting drama became the streamer’s best-performing debut series in two years, amassing a whopping 35 million global viewers. It currently holds two prestigious titles at the platform, as it has both the most-watched global premiere and finale of any Paramount+ show thus far.
Landman racked up nearly 9.7 billion minutes of viewing over the course of eleven weeks in Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming rankings, joining fellow Sheridan originals Lioness and Tulsa King and further cementing the creator’s status as a bona fide television titan. Paramount co-CEO Chris McCarthy commended Sheridan and his innovative storytelling when the streamer announced the second season of Landman, saying:
“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the neo-Western themes of rugged individualism, ambition and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth. The series has helped drive Paramount+ to new heights as the No. 2 SVOD [service] in the U.S. for original hours watched in Q4.”
Filming of Landman was also expected to commence on February 28 in Fort Worth, Texas. Fans should likely anticipate seeing more of Cami and Galino as Tommy overtakes M-Tex Oil as the new CEO following Monty’s death. The main characters are bound to return, with a new central crisis and fresh cast members sure to be introduced.

Landman Review: Taylor Sheridan Strikes Gold with a Reliably Foul Billy Bob Thornton
Don’t let the “wannabe-Yellowstone” promos fool you. Thornton’s R-rated turn provides great humor in this authentic and well-made series.
What the Cast Has Said About Season 2
Before speculating on Cami and Galino, Billy Bob Thornton addressed potential storylines for Season 2, telling The Hollywood Reporter that, while Tommy “probably doesn’t want to” become M-Tex’s next CEO, he’ll likely honor Monty’s dying wish to pay a “debt to his old friend and boss.” Tommy’s reluctance to assume more power and control will surely play a major psychological role for the lead character in Season 2.
Thornton also spoke about his desire to have Tommy interact more with Galino in Season 2, the mysterious cartel boss who saved him after a Texas gang abducted and battered him in the season finale. According to Thornton via The Los Angeles Times:
“I would also hope that we explore the weird position that Tommy is in with Andy’s character. Tommy isn’t dealing with henchmen anymore. He knew how to deal with them. But now he’s got a smart guy on the opposite side of the law who is his equal…We’re in a chess match, and I hope that’s explored.”
Casting a bona fide movie star like Andy Garcia and using him sparingly in Season 1 makes little sense. The same goes for Demi Moore, a longtime A-lister currently experiencing an award-winning renaissance for her work in The Substance in 2024. Both Garcia’s Galino and Moore’s Cami stand to expand their roles in Landman Season 2 and have a much more dramatic focus when the series returns.

The Stars of Landman Discuss Taylor Sheridan, Authenticity, and Special Ops: Lioness
James Jordan, Mark Collie, and Jacob Lofland star in Taylor Sheridan’s new series Landman, which streams on Paramount Plus every Sunday.
Following his character Monty’s shocking death in the first season finale, Hamm also hinted in an interview with USA Today that his former on-screen wife Moore will have a far bigger role in the sophomore season, even though he himself will not be returning. The Mad Men alum revealed:
“It’s pretty cool that Taylor said to (Moore), ‘Trust me, I’m going to take care of you. This will be worth your while.’ To say the least. Cami’s got so much room to grow and show who she really is. It’s going to be fascinating to watch.”
The Plot of Season 2 Puts a Lot on Tommy’s Plate
The series, created by Taylor Sheridan, is described as an “upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.” And as the story goes, Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris is at the center of the volatile world of West Texas oil fields. The way Season 1 ended, there is a massive stage for heightened drama, with the old-school oilman now becoming president of the Cami Miller-owned M-Tex company. Thornton recently opened up to Deadline about how the two characters’ relationship will evolve in Season 2 by saying:
“Since she doesn’t really know the oil business that well, I’m there with her to show her how these people operate. You can know something intellectually but what are the street smarts behind it? I know how to deal with these people she’s going to have to deal with. I just tell her, ‘Look, some of these deals you can take but when it gets really weird and difficult, let me know because I know these guys.’”
Thornton’s character is known for embodying the tension between personal ambition and the larger impact of the oil industry on society. His journey also sheds light on those caught in the crossfire of growth. In Season 2, this responsibility becomes twofold because he’s also facing a lot more danger.
“He goes from having a job that’s really difficult and a job that’s very dangerous to having two. Now I’m kind of executive and a landman and a family man in the midst of this tornado. It makes for some pretty interesting stuff I have to say.”
“I think the only difference in my wardrobe this year is every now and then I’ll throw a sportjacket over my jeans and crummy button up shirt.”
However candid the actor may make things sound, it goes without saying that Landman boasts a premise that is gripping because it combines personal stakes with socio-economic themes.
