Margot Robbie’s Barbie Voice Revealed In New Set Video

We have seen plenty of Margot Robbie as Barbie in the last few days, and now we also get to hear her in the latest set video to be shared online.

Warner Bros.

Although there has been a lot of secrecy around the filming of the upcoming Barbie movie, that hasn’t stopped a number of set videos and photos appearing on the internet in the last few days. In a new piece of footage, Margot Robbie’s Barbie voice is heard for the first time as she roller-skates down the street with go star America Ferrera. While there has been a lot of speculation about exactly what the Barbie movie is going to entail, with comments from Robbie that she wants to defy expectations, so far, it appears to be very much conforming to exactly what most people expected.

Barbie has been in development for a number of years, and has gone through many variations on the script and the actress portraying the world-famous doll. While Barbie has been seen in many animated features and TV shows over the years, this is the first time she has been brought to life on screen, and it hasn’t been an easy journey. After the movie shifted from Sony to Warner Bros. many of the stumbling blocks seemed to be overcome, with Robbie seeming to be a perfect choice in the lead role, while the rest of the cast has been built up over the last few months and includes Ryan Gosling as Ken, as well as Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa and Will Ferrell.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The latest video was shared on Twitter by @margotswhore, and sees Robbie and Ferrera on rollerblades in the street. Robbie is wearing the same pink bellbottomed costume that we have seen a lot of in the last week, as she grabs Ferrera’s hand and shouts, “Ready for fun?” While many have compared Robbie’s Barbie voice to that she uses for Harley Quinn, you can check out the video below and decide for yourself on the short clip.

While the plot of the movie is completely under wraps for now, there has been a suggestion that the movie will see more than just Robbie and Gosling appearing as the perfectly matched couple of Barbie and Ken. According to reports, both Shang-Chi star Simu Liu and Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa will be appearing as alternative Kens, while Hari Nef, Issa Rae and Emma Mackey will all be appearing as different Barbies. How all of this fits into the storyline is anyone’s guess right now, but with Will Ferrell said to be playing a CEO of a toy company, it looks like there could be a certain amount of self-awareness about the whole movie.

Whatever the story entails, one thing for certain is that the Barbie movie is certainly intriguing many people, particularly with its caliber of director and stars. Whether that will all translate into box office gold will purely rely on the marketing of the movie, and the reality of whether people want to go to the cinema to see a Barbie movie at all. We will find out when Barbie hits cinemas on Jul. 21, 2023.
