Guy Ritchie is delving into the world of organized crime with his new Paramount+ series, MobLand. The crime series involves a cast comprised of Hollywood royalty starring Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan. The Paramount+ show follows the story of two warring crime families based in London whose criminal operations have a global reach. Each family wants to consolidate power within the parameters of the global crime syndicate and become the head of said global organization, creating strife that leads to bloodshed.
Ritchie, along with directing the series, serves as executive producer, joined by Hardy, Keith Cox, Nina L. Diaz, David C. Glasser, Jez Butterworth, Kris Thykier, Ivan Atkinson, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Dean Baker, and David Hutkin with Ronan Bennett, the creator of British crime series Top Boy and producer/writer of the Peacock’s TV adaptation of The Day of the Jackel starring Eddie Redmayne, writing the script.
MobLand is Ritchie’s latest television project after his successful 2024 Netflix series The Gentlemen, which starred Theo James. The Netflix series is an adaptation of his 2019 film of the same name, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Charlie Hunnam and was renewed for a second season in late 2024. Here’s everything you need to know about Guy Ritchie’s epic return to the small screen.
Here’s What You Need To Know About ‘MobLand’
Following the success of his action comedy crime drama The Gentlemen, Guy Ritchie returns to the nefarious dealings of organized crime with MobLand. The crime drama revolves around two warring British crime families, the Harrigans and the Stevensons, and stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren as mob bosses Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, as well as Tom Hardy as their conciliator, Harry Da Souza. The official synopsis reads: “Power is up for grabs as two warring crime families clash in a battle that threatens to topple empires. In the crossfire stands Harry Da Souza, a street-smart ‘fixer’ who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide.” The series will be intense as lines are crossed to attain immeasurable power.
Before the studio and the creative team settled on MobLand, the crime drama was titled The Donovans. The series was originally intended to be a British spinoff of the 2013 Showtime series Ray Donovan, which starred Liev Schreiber as the titular character. The Showtime series ran for seven seasons until 2020, followed by a film, Ray Donovan: The Movie, in 2022. After much consideration, the showrunners made revisions to the story so that it would work as its own original project. The ending product has no affiliation with the 2013 franchise and instead works as a standalone series.
