The live-action Masters of the Universe film has found its He-Man in Nicholas Galitzine. The 29-year-old star is best known for his roles in The Idea of You, and Red, White & Royal Blue, and recently appeared in the British historical drama miniseries, Mary & George. Masters of the Universe is set to release in 2026, and will be directed by Bumblebee’s Travis Knight.
As per Deadline, the live-action version of Masters of the Universe has been in development for some time. While plot details remain under wraps, Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios, says everyone is “thrilled” with Galitzine’s arrival to the production. While no additional casting news has been released at this time, and it’s unclear when the project will begin principal photography, Rapaport added that it will be an “epic film” that will delight faithful fans of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe franchise.

Masters of the Universe Continues Nicholas Galitzine’s Relationship with Amazon MGM
With Nicholas Galitzine tapped to play Prince Adam/He-Man, the part continues the trend of the young actor starring in Amazon MGM productions. Galitzine previously starred in Prime Video’s Red, White & Royal Blue which was released in 2023, and he recently found himself also starring in The Idea of You earlier this year. The film quickly became Prime Video’s number one romantic comedy debut of all time, watched by nearly 50 million viewers in its first couple of weeks.
Masters of the Universe will be a joint venture between Amazon MGM, Mattel, and Escape Artists. The script is currently in the rewrite phase with Travis Knight’s longtime collaborator, Chris Butler, who is reworking a draft previously penned by David Callaham and Aaron & Adam Nee.
Mattel Films’ President, Robbie Brenner, called Nicholas Galitzine “charismatic,” and says the company is “proud” to team up with Amazon for the highly-anticipated release of Masters of the Universe.

This will be the second live-action film based on the popular Mattel toyline of the 1980s, following Dolph Lundgren’s performance as He-Man in the 1987 film, Masters of the Universe. While there have been a number of animated projects over the years, this second live-action version has had a few starts and stops. The project was previously in development at Netflix, but was abruptly canceled in 2023.
With the official casting of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, things are back on track, and fans can now begin the online discourse that’s sure to evolve.
