Some childhood stories will always be gentle reminders of a much simpler time. Many involve human-like animals, prince and princess characters, and more. They represent fairytale worlds that include real-life lessons and are just some of the earliest ways to help children turn their imagination into creativity. Lately, however, a few of those beloved generational stories have turned into gruesome films, scary enough to make all rethink the actual meaning behind stories they grew up adoring. The 2025 horror film Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare is one of them, and now it can be watched in the comfort (or discomfort) of movie lovers’ own homes.
If you secretly love this version of Peter Pan and want to watch it again or can handle true fright, the film is now available to buy or rent on Prime Video. Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare turns the warm story of “the boy who wouldn’t grow up” into a child-snatching, evil being. The plot follows Wendy Darling (Megan Placito) as she begins a journey to find her younger brother Michael (Peter DeSouza-Feighoney), who has been abducted by Peter Pan (Martin Portlock) and Tinker Bell (Kit Green) to be taken to Neverland. The two characters that children grew up loving and would probably trust if they were real are instead portrayed as their worst nightmare.

Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare also stars Teresa Banham as Mary Darling, Olumide Olorunfemi as Tiger Lily, Campbell Wallace as John Darling, and more. While its Rotten Tomatoes score, which sits at 43%, isn’t the best, the movie brought in $1.2 million at the box office on a budget of just $250,000-$310,000. It was released on January 13, 2025, in the United States and on February 24, 2025, in the United Kingdom. Distributed by Altitude Film Distribution, the British Independent slasher film was written and directed by Scott Chambers (Chicken, 2015). It serves as the third installment in the Twisted Childhood Universe (TCU) and is a horror retelling of J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan (the 1904 play and 1911 novel).
The film didn’t sit well with critics. Jack Martin of Film Feeder wrote, “It’s pure copyrightsploitation nonsense, a fact that even the film itself is aware of, and as that it delivers an appropriately bonkers ride that you’re either on board with or you’re not, even with all its strengths and weaknesses.” Others shared similar reviews, calling it a “disturbing” movie and Brian Orndorf of Blu-ray.com wrote, “Jeffrey/Chambers takes the helming credit this time around, and it’s difficult to understand what’s being directed in the endeavor, which is entirely aimless and repetitive, unable to summon even cheap scares with its lack of genre imagination.”

How could something as adorable as Winnie-the-Pooh be turned into a horror film? It’s possible, and it has already been made. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey was released in 2023, and it was the first installment in the Twisted Childhood Universe. It follows Pooh and Piglet, not as beloved honey lovers but as feral murderers. They terrorize a group of young university women and Christopher Robin (Nikolai Leon) when he returns to the Hundred Acre Wood five years after leaving for college. There is also a sequel.
