Sam Raimi Doesn’t Know If He is Finished Filming on Doctor Strange 2

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could require more re-shoots, as Sam Raimi needs to see a final cut before he can say filming is done.

With the narrative of the MCU continually in flux, there are some people who would argue that no movie is ever complete, as events in the future could cause subtle changes in perception about previous entries in the saga. While that may be something that is all just about audience thought processes, it seems that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi isn’t sure whether his new Marvel offer is finished in the physical sense. Having just completed a number of re-shoots on the movie, Raimi revealed in a recent interview that he can’t actually say whether that is it for the May release or not.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

With just over three months to go until Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness becomes the first Marvel Studios movie release of 2022, it looks like director Sam Raimi and his team will be going up to the wire when it comes to getting the film exactly right in time for its premiere. Originally, the newest addition to the Marvel story was set to hit cinemas in March, but it looks like Disney knew what it was doing in postponing all of its upcoming releases to give Marvel Studios the time it needed to ensure there were no last-minute hitches after so many delays over the last two years.

Talking to Variety, Raimi confessed that he doesn’t know his movie is really finished filming or not. He explained:

“I wish I knew the answer to that question. I think we’re done, but we just cut everything. We’re just starting to test the picture and we’ll find out if there’s anything that’s got to be picked up. If something’s unclear or another improvement I can make in this short amount of time left, I’ll do it. One thing I know about the Marvel team is they won’t stop. They’ll keep pushing it until it’s as close to being great as it could.”

Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness Will Push The Boundaries of The Marvel Multiverse

Marvel Studios

Spider-Man: No Way Home may have fully introduced the live-action concept of what can happen when universes collide, but that is just the start. After teasing the multiverse’s arrival since the end of Phase 3, the last year has built up a collaboration of circumstances seen in WandaVision, Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home that will begin to unravel spectacularly in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and see the full power of the multiverse being released on the Marvel timeline.

It has been noted that the Doctor Strange sequel will have an “impressive body count” and will also bring in new characters and see some older characters returning in previously unseen forms, such as a hinted arrival of Tom Cruise as a variant of Iron Man. With many of these expected cameos having only been shot in the last month or so, it is no wonder that Raimi feels a need to take stock before declaring that shooting on the film is completely over. If there is one task harder than being in front of the camera on a MCU movie, then it is being behind it, but one thing for sure is that if they spend every last bit of time to get it right, then the end product will be amazing.
