When it comes to on-screen deaths, one man has had more than his fair share. Yes, it’s Sean Bean, the many who very rarely appears in a TV show or movie without his character meeting an untimely demise at some point. In fact, the actor has been meeting his maker for more than three decades, including in one of his first roles in the historical drama Caravaggio. Since then, Bean has gained such a reputation for being killed off in his movie and TV projects that it has become something of a infamous trend for the star.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Bean reminisced about his many years of dying on the big and small screen. As well as looking back fondly on his original dance with the Grim Reaper, Bean also named what be believes to be his best death due to its epic nature; the demise of Boromir in The Lord of the Rings. He said:
“Lord of the Rings was a good one. My first death was a film called Caravaggio, which is about the artist Caravaggio, by Derek Jarmain, he’s a wonderful guy, great director. That was my first death, I got my throat slit, which is okay, it’s your first day, so you’re thinking, “Oh great.” [Laughs] But then it goes on, and on, and on. I suppose the best death was Boromir in Lord of the Rings, that was a very epic kind of death, it was very emotional, very moving, and Peter Jackson allowed me enough time to die and milk it, and get the music and pathos. I like that one.”

Sean Bean Recently Began Turning Down Roles In Which He Would Have Died.
HBO
Although there is a running joke about the death of Sean Bean in everything he does, the actor has said that he has started turning down some scripts recent where his character doesn’t make it to end of the story without dying in one way or another. Having said that, he has packed in plenty of iconic deaths that most other actors…well, would kill for.
In his near 40 years on screen, Bean has seen his character die no less than 23 times, with the manner of his demise ranging from being stabbed or shot to falling from an antenna and being killed by a huge satellite dish. This latter was the fate of his Bond villain in Goldeneye, when he became the first villain to be taken on by Pierce Brosnan’s super-spy.
While he may not have been dying too much recently, back in the first season of Game of Thrones, Bean was able to bring the first season to a horrific close when Ned Stark was executed. Having been set up as one of the big name stars of the show, those unfamiliar with George R.R. Martin’s books were shocked to see Bean once again failing to make it to the end of a project without perishing.
Will we see Sean Bean die on screen again? Who knows, but he will be seen next in the live-action Manga adaptation Knights of the Zodiac, which sees him reunited with Goldeneye’s Famke Janssen, and is released on May 12.
