Changes Were Made to The Boogeyman After It Was Deemed Too Scary
20th Century Studios
The Boogeyman promises to terrify audiences everywhere when it lands in theaters in June, with director Rob Savage recently revealing that changes had to be made to the movie a certain moment was deemed too scary (can horror movies ever really be too scary?).
“The first time you see the creature, the audience screamed so loud, and then immediately started talking with their neighbors and chattering, that they completely missed the next lines,” the filmmaker revealed. “So we had to recut it and build in 45 seconds of padding, just so they didn’t miss any vital information.”
Needless to say, The Boogeyman is all set to be brimming with jump scares. So here’s hoping we don’t miss too much while we’re busy shrieking and covering our eyes. “I’m a huge jump-scare guy. That’s the most gratifying part, when you see that play with an audience and you can feel them taking the bait, and then you feel the jump land,” he continued. “I was worried I’d become a horror story of compromise, but every frame of this movie is the movie I wanted to make.”
While The Boogeyman was initially intended to be released via streaming on Hulu, plans have now changed, with King’s monster movie now all set to debut in theaters nationwide on June 2, 2023.
