Created by Alexi Hawley, The Recruit finally returned for a second season and has continued to sit comfortably on Netflix’s Top 10 watchlist since last month. The series is a spy adventure that follows a lawyer named Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo), who began working for the CIA immediately after graduating from Georgetown Law. In the show’s first season, he encounters an Eastern European asset who demands to be freed from prison, which causes his life to take a drastic turn. As the woman threatens to extort the powers that be, Owen discovers the full extent of her relationship with the CIA. As such, he subsequently becomes entangled in the complexities of international politics as he attempts to negotiate with the asset. In doing so, he positions himself in opposition to some dangerous people despite doing his best to fulfill his duties with the CIA.
The show’s second season follows Owen in the wake of his new assignment. Now in South Korea, he’s accompanied by a Korean intelligence agent named Jang Kyun (Teo Yoo). As Jang searches for his kidnapped wife, Nan Hee (Sanghee Lee), Owen is pulled into a life-threatening situation that turns out to be bigger than he expected. With a possible threat coming from inside the agency, the CIA’s brightest new lawyer will ultimately face another dangerous task. Thankfully, Netflix has another series that will keep them going after that Season 2 finale. In the wake of such a disaster, she’s meant to help defuse the emerging international crisis and help forge new strategic alliances in the region. Simultaneously, she must adjust to her new place in the spotlight, something she’s not used to and doesn’t particularly enjoy.
A career diplomat with an unwavering call to duty, her professional career is seemingly impeccable. However, her personal life reflects something slightly different. While adjusting to her new position, she must also navigate her deteriorating marriage. Her husband, Hal (Rufus Sewell), is also a career diplomat and is the former United States ambassador to Lebanon. However, he is currently without a post, which doesn’t suit him. Given his ambition and knowledge, he struggles to find his place alongside Kate.
