Golden Globe winner Toni Collette is well and truly in her villain era. Hot on the heels of playing Mickey 17’s smiling assassin Ylfa, she has a sinister new role in Netflix‘s mystery thriller Wayward. The first trailer for the limited series offers a closer look at her character, Evelyn Wade, the enigmatic leader of a school for troubled teens, and the “insidious underbelly” of the scenic town she resides in. The genre-bending show looks like a cross between Twin Peaks and Midsommar, so is sure to attract attention when it premieres.
“In the hills and valleys, there is a place where your teenager can grow and thrive,” Collette’s cult-like leader says at the beginning of the trailer, pitching her facility as a place for wayward youths. “My name is Evelyn Wade. I’m the lead youth counselor here at Tall Pines Academy. We use groundbreaking therapeutic techniques to solve the problem of adolescence.”
