Anyone who knows me knows my daughter is my kryptonite

Snoop Dogg and his daughter Choc – real name Cori Broadus – have opened up about what they went through when Choc had a stroke earlier this year at the age of just 24.

The pair did a joint interview with Us Weekly ahead of the premiere of the new docuseries Snoop Dogg’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story in which the rapper admitted to struggling with the memories of what his daughter experienced in January.

“It’s hard for me to revisit that day,” he said. “Anyone who knows me knows my daughter is my kryptonite.”

The stroke had taken place very suddenly and she had some issues with her motor skills for a little while afterwards. “I was celebrating at a party, and then the next day, I’m in the hospital,” Choc said. “I think it really scared everyone… You know, a stroke is no joke. It brought me and my family closer, [realising] that anything can happen in a snap of a finger.

“I didn’t even know I was having a stroke when I was having it because it’s not really talked about, and I never thought I could have one.”

“Cori is very open in showing her truth, whether it’s talking about her struggles with mental health or her stroke,” Snoop Dogg added. Choc attempted suicide in 2021 after struggling with depression.

“Most people wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing their experiences, but she wants to help people by showing that they are not alone.”

Choc has also kickstarted a music career of her own, recently releasing her debut EP ‘Journals to Johnny’.

“Life be lifin’ and – one thing about me – I’ve always been an open book,” Choc told NME. “I’ve always shared with the world what I’m going through – whether it’s a good day or a bad day, a good month or a bad month – I show it off.”

She said that she knew that “when you’re a celebrity’s kid, people have certain expectations,” but she “finally got to put out music that feels true to who she is” on ‘Journals to Johnny’.

In other news, Snoop Dogg recently declared himself as an unlikely candidate to step in to host MasterChef, if Gregg Wallace does not return over allegations of misconduct.

In a somewhat unforeseen turn of events, Snoop has now thrown his hat into the ring to replace Wallace, telling The Mirror: “You better believe Snoop could be the new MasterChef judge”.

The rap legend went on to reference his friendship with TV chef Gordon Ramsay as further proof of his credentials for the role. “My boy Gordon [Ramsay] judges on the US version of the show, and I know he would back me to be able to judge on the UK version,” Snoop added.
